Job Description:
The Collections Specialist will be responsible for initiating calls to delinquent customers by phone and email to collect payments and settle accounts. The ideal candidate must communicate clearly and thoroughly, maintain a high level of professionalism and be customer focused. Applicant must be an initiative-taker with strong work ethics, who can function effectively under tight deadlines and schedules. This role involves close collaboration with the sales team, strong and clear communication skills are essential.
What you’ll do:
Primary Responsibilities:
Monitors customer’s account balances to identify outstanding debts and contacts them to collect the balances owed.
Identifies financial warning signs and notifies management of customers exhibiting those indicators.
Maintains accurate records of communications and payment arrangements.
Reports to management on collection activity and status of overdue balances.
Interacts with customers on past due accounts, past due balances, payment plan options, declined payments, etc.
Researchs, reconciles and resolves open items.
Ensures unapplied credits and payments are identified on a timely basis and cleared against outstanding receivable balances.
Provides reports and summaries of collection activities to management as needed.
Collaborates with sales representatives and other departments to resolve discrepancies, gather information, or update on issues in sales orders.
Performs other duties as assigned
What you need to know:
Experience/Skills/Education:
Required:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
1-3+ years of experience in collections or equivalent field.
Prior experience with high volume commercial collections at a wholesale business.
Knowledge of commercial collection laws and GAAP and SOX requirements as they relate to AR, Credit, and Collections.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution, via email and over the phone.
Desired:
Post-high school education in Accounting or Finance, desirable
Ability to work independently within established procedures associated with job function.
Proficiency in multiple competencies related to the job
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Prior experience in ERP system, NetSuite preferred
