Requirements: Must have at least 12 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months. If applicant has been laid off or providing child or elder care, the employment gap will be increased to 18 months. Previous work history will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.

Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.

Location: Blairsville Hatchery, Blairsville GA

Schedule: Sunday – Wednesday

Hours: A typical work day begins at 8:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Averages approximately 40 hours per week.

Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.  

                    

Position Summary:

  • This position is responsible for the maintainance and repair of the hatchery building, ventilation equipment, incubators, hatchers, generator, air compressor, tray washer, box washer, and ADF equipment.  Other duties may be assigned.

Mimimum Requirements

  • Experience:  One year maintenance experience or equivalent educational experience. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilties

  • Preventative maintenance and calibration program for 26 incubators and 28 hatchers and preventative maintenance for approximately 25 HVAC units, 2 Reznor heaters, 3 Evap coolers,  chick counter, conveyors, tray washer and box washer (40%).
  • Change pumps and single/three phase motors. Changes PLC and VFD’s on equipment, such as tray washer, counter, ventilation controls and electronic circuit boards (15%)
  • Preventative maintenance on incubators, hatcher carts/dollies, wheels, bearings, air cylinders and turning cords (20%).
  • Repair broken, damaged or faulty plugs, receptacles, conduit and leaking water or air lines and troubleshoots all hatchery equipment (15%).
  • On-call duties, as needed.
  • Respirator certification is required and maintained by testing on an annual basis.

Other Duties, Responsibilites and Activities

  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.  Such as:  Calculate chemical pump and porportioner, empty offal tank, checks generator battery and fluid levels weekly, monitors test and hour levels, assist with inventory and ordering, driving company vehicle to pick up parts or supplies (10%).

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements/Safety

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.  Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company.  No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines. 

Physical Demands and Work Environment

 The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Physical:  Must use safe lifting techniques.  Must regularly lift pumps and motors weighing up from 5 – 500 pounds. Will be required to use pallet jack to unload pallets weighing up to approximately 1800 pounds.  Will be required to obtain scissor lift and electrical certification.  Must be able to bend and squat and climb two stories of stairs to reach to roof.  Must be able to work at heights of up to 22 feet.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Must have good communication skills to accurately communicate with supervisors and vendors.
  • Tools and Equipment:  Power tools
  • Environment:  Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required:  NFPA 70 ARC flash protection (footwear, flame retardant clothing, face shield, ear plugs, electrical gloves and safety glasses).  When using chemicals this position will be required to use:  face shield or safety goggles, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots   Ear plugs will be used as needed.   NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed.  Safety glasses are required. 
  • Chemicals Commonly Used:  Formaldehyde, lubricants, disinfectants and cleaners.
  • Safety: Will be trained to recognize and comply with all safety policies.  Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures.  These include, but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.  Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.

General Sign Off: The employee is expected to adhere to all company policies. Failure to perform this job to above standards could lead to progressive discipline up to and including termination.
