Schedule:  Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.  Weekend rotation with other leads/managers is Saturday and Sunday from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm (approximately 3 times a year).  Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.

Position Summary:

  • This position is responsible for the daily supervision of the team members engaged in the activities of pick up, delivery, inspection, and sanitation of eggs, inventory and storage of eggs under controlled conditions, inspecting eggs to ascertain quality and fitness for incubation,  and cleaning/sanitizing hatchery and equipment while performing the same duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and assists workers preparing eggs for incubation by grading eggs while traying to observe for defects such as shell color, texture, cracks, etc.; transferring pedigree eggs without mixing hen numbers, placing substandard eggs (broken, dirty, etc.) in container for disposal, packing eggs in cases for international orders, and entering data using a touch screen tablet (50%)
  • Supervises and assists workers in the maintenance of a sanitary environment by operating tray washer, operating high pressure sprayer and/or water hose to clean and sanitize setters, hatchers, egg rooms, chick processing area, and hatchery vehicles, performing the collection of weekly hatchery monitoring samples including air plates and swabs, and fumigating specified areas of facility as required (20%)
  • Obtains information on international orders, prepares paperwork according to Export Order Form (EOF), creates required labels, and ensures that orders are started in a timely manner to complete order by deadline (10%)
  • Monitors and maintains incubation equipment by calibrating the controls and hatchery environment for proper temperature and humidity levels and reports issues as needed (10%)
  • Must be willing to achieve and maintain a respirator certification:  TMs must remain clean shaven during all scheduled work hours. (100%)
  • Lead positions must currently have and consistently maintain 4 attendance points or less. (100%)

Other duties, responsibilities, and activities:

  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.  Such as:  Performing duties of hatchery clerical, egg driver, and hatchery monitor; maintain inventory and order supplies as needed maintain vehicle by checking fluid levels, filters, tire pressure, and clean/disinfect to remove debris; and maintains a clean and organized work/break area. (10%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements:

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.  Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company.  No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.  Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Physical:  Must use safe lifting techniques.  Must regularly lift and stack chick boxes (wheeled dolly) weighing up to 15 pounds and will occasionally be required to push or pull stacks of boxes up to 125 pounds. Will occasionally be required to pull/push 500 to 1000 pounds (wheeled carts).  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor); walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; bend/stoop; talk or hear.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Tools and Equipment:  Requires the use of hand tools such as broom, squeegee, vaccination gun, wire cutters.
  • Environment:  Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required:  Ear Plugs, safety goggles and/or glasses, face shield, chemical resistant gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required.  Must wear company provided facial covering.  NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators, cotton gloves, rain suits can be worn as needed. 
  • Chemicals Commonly Used:  formaldehyde, peroxide, disinfectants, vehicle fluids, and lubricants.
  • The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Safety:  Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
