Investigate the effect of formulation and processing changes on coating performance, particularly with respect to coating performance failures in the Consumer/Industrial/Automotive space. Document and standardize coating developmental data.
Support Coating Next Generation Platforms and New Product Introductions:
Analyze the effect of chemistry and process parameters on chemical resistance, adhesion, abrasion resistance and cracking.
Investigate effects of additives to improve adhesion to wider range of substrate types, such as plastic, metal and glass.
Investigate effects of pigments, matte agents and other additives on appearance and surface property performance.
Develop in-house test methods for Consumer/Industrial/Automotive Coating space.
Improve performance of protective coatings on metal.
Improve anti-fingerprint coating performance on glass.
Collaborate with global technical teams internally and interface directly with customers to report results, share ideas and advance programs.

Analysis/Digitization/Standardization of Protective Coating Historical Database and Long-Term Weathering Datasets:
Analyze ongoing historical long term weathering studies to make recommendations for commercialization.
The following are required for the role
Co-op must be equally comfortable working in a wet chemistry lab and performing physical property testing and characterization.
Coating application processes and typical testing performed on coatings.
Polymer chemistry principles and mechanical property testing on polymeric systems.
Experience with statistical data analysis and modeling tools.
Experience leading projects and strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
The following are preferred for the position:
The ideal Co-op candidate would be an MS or PhD-level student in a polymer or materials science program or polymer chemistry program.
