Smith+Nephew seeks an Electrical Engineering Co-Op in the Arthroscopic Enabling Technology business to join the Electrical engineering team and work on edge cutting technologies int eh medical visualization industry.
The role will allow an enthusiastic individual to contribute to innovative new product development and proof-of-concept projects to help deliver meaningful enhancements to S+N products all with the goal of helping our patients live a Life Unlimited. The ideal candidate is always curious but applies rigor to any problem they choose to solve. The candidate can work independently, but also in full collaboration with other team members. The position will be based in Andover, MA.
What will you be doing?
This opportunity will involve working with a small team of Electrical and FPGA Engineers to conduct state-of-the-art research and development of next generation medical products related to sports medicine.
Responsibilities include:
Developing and testing new product features
Working closely with managers to complete specifically identified Co-Op projects
Presenting project conclusion to senior leadership
Creating documentation as required by the Smith + Nephew Quality Management System
Start Date: January 2026
Program Length: 6-12 months

What will you need to be successful?
Education:
Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science field at an accredited university.
Minimum undergraduate Senior level and has taken some advanced Electrical Engineering courses.
Major GPA of 3.50 or above preferred
Experience:
Previous applicable internship/co-op, part-time or apprenticeship experience is preferred.
Some experience with schematic capture of electrical circuits
Competences:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
Design experience with electrical engineering concepts. School projects in embedded systems or FPGA are preferable
Basic understanding and experience with testing electrical or software designs
Basic knowledge of electrical engineering concepts
High learning agility
Strong written and verbal communication and technical writing skills
Analytical approach to problem solving
Experience in the medical device field or other regulated field preferred

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $27- $32 USD hourly
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
