GENERAL PURPOSE

The CNC Machine Operator operates computer numerical control (CNC) machinery to fabricate precision parts in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This role is responsible for loading materials, monitoring machine performance, and ensuring finished components meet dimensional and quality requirements.

The CNC Operator performs machining operations in a manufacturing environment while maintaining productivity, safety, and quality standards. This position follows standard work procedures, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and collaborates with team members to solve problems and improve processes. Cross-training in additional equipment or processes may be required based on business needs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Operate CNC machines to manufacture parts according to specifications, work instructions, and production schedules.

Load raw materials and components into CNC machines and ensure proper setup for machining operations.

Monitor machine performance during operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.

Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining requirements and dimensional specifications.

Calculate and verify dimensional information using drawings and job documentation.

Perform routine quality inspections using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measurement tools.

Conduct SPC and quality checks to ensure parts meet required tolerances and quality standards.

Perform basic machine setup tasks including tool changes, offsets, and program selection as required.

Document production activity and complete required paperwork accurately to maintain production and quality records.

Follow Standard Work Instructions and departmental procedures to maintain consistency and efficiency.

Maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with 5S and safety guidelines.

Participate in continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

Achieve required productivity targets and cycle times while maintaining quality standards.

Rotate through department workstations and support other machining processes as needed.

Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and quality personnel regarding production issues or improvement opportunities.

Work overtime as needed to support production requirements.

Maintain regular and predictable attendance based on scheduled hours.

Perform additional responsibilities as requested to support business objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

One of the following is required: (1) High school diploma or its equivalent (GED for example), (2) work experience which demonstrates performance competency

Preferred:

• Experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing environment
• Experience reading blueprints or technical drawings
• Experience working with precision measurement tools

Skills and Abilities

Basic math skills including counting, addition, subtraction, and measurement conversions.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, routings, and work instructions.

Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) preferred.

Ability to use precision measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

Basic computer skills for accessing production systems and documentation.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Demonstrated adaptability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Regular standing and walking throughout the shift
Frequent use of hands to handle tools, controls, and materials
Ability to lift up to 10 lbs regularly, 25 lbs frequently, and up to 50 lbs occasionally

Ability to hear and communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment
