Turntide are based in the North East of England and is focused on delivering electrification systems – energy storage, power electronics and advanced electric motors – to deliver emissions-free mobility and industrial machines across global markets.

There is a massive change happening across industrial Transportation. Globally there is a rapid shift to new electrified platforms to meet the demands of their end users looking to reduce carbon emissions and create entirely new product types. Our Turntide for Electrification solutions help ease the customer journey and accelerate their transition.

We are hiring for a Legal Counsel on a fixed term basis of six months.

The preference for the role is to be hybrid at our site in Gateshead, working full-time. However, remote working will be considered for the right candidate. The role is flexible and part-time working will be considered (3 days per week or above). In-house experience is desirable although not essential. Turntide is looking for a qualified solicitor who has deep relevant experience and can work unsupervised.

The role reports into Turntide’s General Counsel and will be involved in a wide range of legal work.

Job Role

In this role the Legal Counsel will be responsible for the following:

· Provide a wide-range of legal and commercial advice and support to Turntide’s UK and global operations.

· Consider and manage legal and commercial risk including deciding upon appropriate mitigation strategies and taking into consideration needs of key stakeholders.

· Take responsibility for legal work working unsupervised, acting with propriety and integrity in line with the company’s values.

· Draft and negotiate agreements (both legally and commercially) which minimise risks and maximise rights as required including channel/reseller/distribution agreements; IT contracts; supplier and customer agreements; dispute resolution, intellectual property management and some real estate matters.

· Advise upon and provide commercial support for strategic partnerships.

· Take responsibility for and manage local legal regulatory compliance including data protection/GDPR policies and other internal governance policies.

· Advise and manage Turntide governance and compliance requirements with UK Companies House and other similar bodies in other jurisdictions, as required.

· Liaise with external counsel as and when approved.

· Provide employment legal advice and employee relations support to HR.

· Provide legal advice for strategic partnerships and expansion of the Turntide business.

· Manage legal requirements for intellectual property registrations on behalf of Turntide Transport including patent registrations including deciding upon IP strategies and territorial coverage.

· Ensuring the company is up to date with legislative changes which affect the business.

Experience and Skills

We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

· In-house legal experience and ability to work unsupervised

·  Strong drafting skills 

· All-round lawyer who shows good attitude and willingness to tackle ‘whatever comes across the desk’

It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:

  • In-house legal experience working within the technology sector
  • Knowledge and experience of the electrification industry
  • Commercial/corporate experience

· Able to travel both within and outside of the UK if required although it is not expected much travel will be involved.
