Job Summary: This position is located at Department of Housing and Urban Development, Government National Mortgage Association Ginnie Mae. Major Duties:
- As an Accountant (Staff), you will: Prepare and/or review the financial statements and accounting reports of the Association. Respond to and resolve audit findings and recommendations pertaining to the general ledger functions brought up by the General Accounting Office (GAO), the Office of Inspector General (OIG), HUD's Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Ginnie Mae internal control reviews. Identify changes to financial systems and procedures which need to be documented and/or which impact existing handbooks and guidelines. Develop procedures that document each change. Consult with and advise Division management on the development of policies, practices, and procedures relating to the use of operating data in exercising accounting and financial controls and in promoting greater efficiencies in these areas.
Qualifications: You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: Specialized experience for the GS-13, is one year of experience at the GS-12 level, or equivalent, which is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement. Specialized experience is defined as follows: - Analyzing accounting data and preparing reports for senior management; AND - Applying accounting principles or policies in order to perform various accounting functions; AND - Reviewing mortgage loan accounting to ensure that proper accounting policies and procedures are in place and producing desired results; AND - Creating or updating policies and procedures for manual and automated accounting systems. Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
