BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Assists and performs nursing functions under the supervision of Registered Nurse. All functions performed are within the limits of the Tennessee Nurse Practice Act and nursing policies and procedures.

  • Nurse Manager

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Minimum Education: Associates required; completion of an advanced Pharmacology course required.

Degree: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required.

License/Certification Required: Licensed Practical Nurse in State of Tennessee; BLS required.

Minimum Work Experience: One year hospital experience preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Skills as outlined in the LPN orientation checklist.
  • Effective communication skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assesses and identifies patient symptoms and problems. Reports unusual data to RN team leader in a timely manner.
  • Assists in developing and updating nursing plan of care every shift.
  • Participates in patient care conferences as needed.
  • Assists the physician with the therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within scope of practice.
  • Establishes therapeutic relationships with patient and families.
  • Correctly evaluates and thoroughly documents response of the patient to treatments and interventions.
  • Assists in evaluating nursing care.
  • Meets unit and hospital quality management goals.
  • Acquires and maintains hospital and unit-specific competencies.
  • Effectively and professionally interacts and collaborates with other providers of patient care.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Fosters mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly, manner as measured by management observation and peer input.
  • Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
  • Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
