Overview of Position:

The purpose of this position is to transport patients and material such as charts, specimens, equipment, and supplies efficiently throughout the facility. Incumbent will occasionally connect EKG leads and is responsible for analyzing readings and reporting information to the nurses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.    Transports patients between ER, nursing units, diagnostic areas, doctors' suites, morgue, and other areas of the hospital.
2.    Transports blood and other specimens on both a STAT and routine basis.
3.    Transports patients on portable telemetry equipment and is responsible for monitoring heart rhythms, rates, and identifying arrhythmias.
4.    Responsible for analyzing telemetry readings, measuring strips, and gathering information about patients to communicate with nursing.  
5.    Utilizes communications technology including Vocera and Interactive Voice Recognition for job assignment and completion.
6.    Cleans and disinfects carts, stretchers, wheelchairs, and other transport related equipment.
7.    Delivers patient equipment, beds, patient supplies, audiovisual equipment, and exchange various gas tanks.
8.    Packs, collates, and prepares paperwork along with other recordkeeping tasks.
9.    Performs materials management functions, including materials distribution as needed.
10.    Maintains safety of the patient and self at all times by following departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
11.    Demonstrates awareness and responds to changes in patient condition through applying CPR, calling a code, contacting nursing, etc.
12.    Receives instructions and follows through with direction from a Transport Supervisor, clinical staff, or department leadership.
13.    Receives training and effectively applies lessons to daily work activities.
14.    Enter pertinent patient information into the Electronic Medical Record system for each patient transport.
15.    Handles all work-related information in a confidential manner, with a focus on patient confidentiality.
16.    Responds to requests in a timely manner, and treats nurses, patients, and other customers with professionalism and compassion.
17.    Follows hospital and departmental policies with special attention to safety, dress, attendance, punctuality, and regulatory compliance.
18.    Works effectively with team members to meet constantly changing needs and deliver care that is customer oriented and cost effective.
19.    Demonstrates initiative and creativity to continuously improve services, departmental and interdepartmental processes, and any other activities that affect quality.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.    High School diploma or equivalent required.
2.    BLS certification required or obtain within 30 days of hire.
3.    Must successfully complete Basic Cardiac Rhythm Analysis course provided by Genesis within 60 days of hire.
4.    Read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions. 
5.    Must read and understand English and have basic arithmetic skills.  
6.    Good interpersonal and communication skills.  
7.    Ability to assess situation needs and problem solve.
8.    Have a working knowledge of computer software programs (Microsoft Office, Windows, etc.)

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1.    Ability to sit, stand, push, pull, bend and walk for extended periods of time.  
2.    Regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
3.    Vision abilities required include up close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
4.    May be required to periodically rotate shifts and regular days off.  All system employees must be willing to work all shifts, extra hours, holidays and emergency shifts as required.
