Position Summary

The Safety Foreman will provide Health & Safety Risk and Technical Safety support to the company supporting production operations and Chord support staff in the Williston basin. Candidates should be recognized for expertise in an EHS Risk and Technical Safety discipline. This position will represent the Company in technical meetings with partners, vendors, and industry/governmental organizations, and must possess the ability to guide department processes and integrate Health & Safety programs into field operations through their influence. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. This position reports to the Health & Safety Manager and is based out of one of Chord’s North Dakota offices with frequent visits to the field assets. Level and salary commensurate with experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Support operational leadership in pursuit of operational excellence

  • Lead and empower direct reports in supporting operations and following company safety programs and best practices

  • Implement and oversee safety programs to help prevent accidents, injuries and safety related incidents

  •  Work with Operations leadership to identify negative safety trends and collaborate on impactful mitigations

  • Oversees incident investigations or root cause analyses, and supports the development of corrective actions to address RCAs, regulatory and audit findings

  • Recommend changes in safety programs

  • Participate in HSE audits and KPA reviews

  • Actively monitor leading indicator data, coaching and mentoring as needed to get satisfactory inputs

  • Submit HSE findings on a weekly and monthly basis

  • Communicate safety performance metrics and goals for operations, and regularly track and report progress against safety goals.

  • Review and recommend requirements necessary for safety and health awareness and safe work practices by implementing safety programs and procedures

  • Code and approve all invoices to services under their control

  • Assists in developing inspection, test, and preventive maintenance plans and equipment reliability programs

  • Assist in the management of safety consultants

  • Serve as a resource for safety and health questions and concerns for employees, supervisors, and managers

  • Participate in emergency response and follow ICS program

  • May be assigned other duties, in addition to, or in lieu of, those described above, according to the needs of the Company

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor ‘s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or 10 years of experience in a Health and Safety role

  • 5 years experience in E&P field operations

  • Knowledgeable of H&S Management Systems, Safety Critical Elements, Management of Change and other applicable industry standards and practices

  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record for Company vehicle insurance

  • Willingness to travel as needed

  • Advanced knowledge of Federal and State regulations, policies, and procedures focused on technical and process safety

  • Strong influence and partnering skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment; flexible with the demands of a growing company 

  • Ability to meet deadlines 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, superiors, vendors, and regulators

  • Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess the ability to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, copier, files, telephone, and fax; maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. On occasion this role will report to the field and be in the field near moving mechanical parts; and in the field, plant, drilling, and pipeline facilities in all outdoor weather conditions and must be able to handle exposure to extreme weather conditions and areas where hazardous chemicals are present. Must be able to climb stairs, kneel, stoop, sit and walk extensively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree of Occupational Safety and Health

  • 12 years of experience in Health and Safety roles

  • 8 years working knowledge and experience in E&P upstream and midstream field operations, and land-based drilling and completions
