OUR STORY
- THE CHICAGO CUBS FRANCHISE is a charter member of Major League Baseball’s National League. Since 1876, the team has won the National League pennant 17 times and was the first team to win back-to-back World Series titles in the 1907 and 1908 seasons. In 2016, the Chicago Cubs made history again when the team won its first World Series in 108 years, ending the longest championship drought in North American sports. Known for its ivy-covered outfield walls, hand-operated scoreboard and famous Marquee sign, iconic Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916, making it the second oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.
HOW YOU’LL CONTRIBUTE
Reporting to the Supervisor, Travel Security Professional, the Part-time – TSP role provides a safe, secure, and pleasant environment for Cubs ownership, uniformed personnel, Baseball Operations executives, and their families. The Protective Services role performs proactive safety and security function while assisting in the needs of all under their purview. In all situations, the Protective Services Officer will perform their duties in a courteous, professional, and restrained manner, through legal methods approved by law and in accordance with Chicago Cubs policies.
This position will be required to work outside of regular work hours, travel for an extended period of time and assist with various Chicago-based appearances, Cubs Charities events and any appearances where an elevated security presence is needed. Role is based in Chicago from the beginning of February to the end of October and 85% travel is required.
THE DAY-TO-DAY:
- Responsible for the safety, physical protection, and security of all under their care during all away games and other special assignments (Home Opener, Cubs Charities Events, Player and Trophy appearances)
- Ensures that safety and security is maintained during arrival, departure, while in the seating area, on the field pre-game, and in all assigned lounges
- Applies risk mitigation knowledge in critical situations and works with visiting teams’ Traveling Security Professionals or their designee for the safety and physical protection of all under their care during baseball games or events
- Becomes familiar with Wrigley Field Emergency Response Protocols (ERP) and the emergency procedures for the MLB ballparks using the My EOP application.
- Supports organizational, departmental, and individual goals as set forth by the AD of Event Operations and Security
- To utilize the chain of command when managing tasks, requests, incidents, or emergency response
- Conducts site advances/walk-throughs for all on and off-site events and compiles written advance reports in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the review of the Manager of Protective Services
- Conducts Risk Assessments for Spring Training, various cities in accordance with SOP and best practices for the review of the Supervisor, Travel Security Professionals (TSPs)
- Responsible for special event security detail communication plans including but not limited to Operation Order, Risk Assessment and Advance Report
- Coordinates all incidents, requests, and tasks with security leadership of the host venue, and provide the information to JOC or their designee to add to Cubs incident management software.
- To complete detailed incident reports with information on all associated persons, location, medical details, witness information and statements, photo or video support, police reports, and resolution
- Consults and coordinates with the Traveling Secretary and TSP to ensure continuity, addressing their operational needs as it relates to safety and security of uniformed personnel and their families
- Conducts all security operations in an operationally discrete and operationally secure manner regarding information about incidents, Cubs ownership, uniformed personnel, associates, and their families
- Coordinates with local police, fire department, or appropriate site security personnel as required
- Completes after action reports for special assignments and/or events for review by the AD of Event Operations and Security
- Will maintain a professional appearance and demeanor as defined by the Front Office Associate Handbook
- Supports the completion of MLB BSOP matrix and Safety Act certification and compliance
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- College degree with two years related experience personal protection or military; or high school diploma with four years related experience personal protection or military
- Unrestricted authorization to work within the United States
- Demonstrated organizational abilities to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, deliver effective results, and consistently meet tight deadlines and targets
- Demonstrated understanding of the need for information integrity and ability to pay attention to maintaining accurate and timely information
- Demonstrated effective communicator both orally and written, with excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Internet manipulation
- Demonstrated ability to operate under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to create and thrive in a team environment
- Demonstrated attention to detail including excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Able to travel domestically and internationally
- Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time, pushing /pulling/carrying lifting may include up to 25lbs (event evacuation), stair climbing, sit, twist, turn, bend as required to perform duties within the facility
WHAT SETS YOU APART:
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Advanced or specialized security/personal protection certifications and/or degrees from accredited university in Criminal Justice, Administrative Justice, or Security
- Military Experience and/or Law Enforcement experience
- Guest Service Experience
- MLB Security Experience
