Job Description

The Werth College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics at FHSU is creating a University Water Office to help improve state water quality and quantity according to the , which lists five guiding principles:

  • Conserve and Extend the High Plains Aquifer
  • Secure, Protect, and Restore Our Kansas Reservoirs
  • Improve the State’s Water Quality
  • Reduce Our Vulnerability to Extreme Events
  • Increase Awareness of Kansas Water Resources

The University Water Office will be responsible for initiating, coordinating, and assisting water-related projects that help the university show progress toward any of the five guiding principles listed above. The Water Officer will lead this office and report to the dean of the Werth College.

Minimum Qualifications: M.S. degree in an environment- or water-focused discipline

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of methods to improve water conservation and quality;
  • Success as a grant/proposal writer or administrator;
  • Evidence of proficiency in planning projects, including budget management.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Audit campus water use and make data-informed recommendations for improvements;
  • Create social-media content, conference presentations, and other public-facing communications about office activities;
  • Organize and host public-education events related to the Kansas Water Plan;
  • Collaborate with faculty to engage students in efforts to support the Kansas Water Plan;
  • Help administer funded research related to water quality and quantity;
  • Supervise student workers and/or an administrative assistant;
  • Maintain the budget allocated to the Werth College on behalf of the Water Office;
  • Monitor expenditures and reconcile monthly budget reports for the department accounts;
  • Process travel and purchasing requests;
  • Understand and implement university and state procedures and regulations;
  • Perform other office management functions as needed or assigned by the dean.

Salary:  $65,000, plus benefits
