The IT Technical Business Analyst will be responsible for providing Technical Business Analysis support for the Enterprise IT Project Management Office (EPMO). The EPMO supports the IT Executive Committee (ITEC) in the planning and governance of IT Portfolios delivered across ENMAX Power, Energy and Corporate business units. It is critical this position has the right skill set and knowledge from both a Business and Technical perspective to complete expected deliverables across the business units.
This role is responsible for both strategic and tactical level work collaborating with the business and technology teams to produce detailed business cases and helping to assess the correct selection of process given the strategic fit utilizing a methodology for project prioritization. Additionally, tactical deliverables related to the execution of specific projects in the portfolio will also be included within the expected work to be performed. The IT Technical Business Analyst will have the level of experience and expertise required to engage in Business Analysis best practices development initiatives and will provide thoughtful leadership and familiarity with proven solutions that support business and technical objectives.
Major Responsibilities:
Strategic, Project Portfolio Specific:
Oversee the collection of information and the writing of Business Cases as they relate to the various potential projects and apply a scoring methodology which allows the potential projects to be scored and ranked.
Provide governance of business case writing processes, ensuring they are followed and completed to the IT EPMO standard.
Provide support and guidance to contract business analysts, ensuring effective onboarding and quality deliverables through defined best practices.
Establish and maintain influential relationships with team members both internal to the EPMO and external, including technical staff and Business contacts.
Project Specific:
Lead and facilitate workshops for eliciting, analysis, and documentation of business and functional requirements from various stakeholders
Listen, translate, simplify (or detail out) and communicate business requirements to capture buy-in from all stakeholders.
Research, develop and prioritize technical requirements translated from business requirements, work with Technical Analysts, Solution Architects, and technical development teams to ensure that they are accurately reflected in solution design and deliverables.
Produce and maintain business process flow and system data flow map
Lead and facilitate workshops for stakeholder analysis, support and execution of testing strategies, user acceptance testing, as well as training and communication plans
Support or act as Test Lead and ensure test strategies, test cases and test scenarios are comprehensive and validate the solution based on the captured requirements.
Conduct business process modeling and generate applicable scenarios for the technology functionality testing team.
Work with training team to document system scenarios and identify roles impacted to help develop a transition to operations (TTO) and change management plans.
Education Required:
Undergraduate degree in information systems, computer science, financial management or equivalent
Accredited Business Analysis certification (IIBA accredited)
Qualifications & Experience:
Minimum of 10 years working experience in information technology and business analysis
Minimum of 5 years working experience in technical business analysis and full systems development
Demonstrated knowledge and ability in the analysis of business and functional requirements and best practices.
Strong understanding of technology service delivery, project and applications management, the software development lifecycle, systems development methodologies, system design and testing methods
Good understanding of organizational strategy, project strategic alignment, and project backlog prioritization
Solid knowledge of relevant technology concepts (e.g. client-server, relational databases, cloud and web-based architectures, application stack)
Strong facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to present material to various audiences.
Must have a solid working knowledge of Business Intelligence concepts (e.g. reporting, querying software, OLAP, spreadsheets, dashboards, and data mining)
Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate meetings, brainstorming sessions and consensus building activities
Basic Knowledge of implementation and configuration of enterprise systems such as CRM, or ERP
Experience delivering or working in Agile projects

Analyze, facilitate, model and organize information to reconcile conflicts, elicit and communicate requirements, and distinguish solution ideas from business needs

Salary: Technical Service Analyst, Level C (Current CUPE 2024 rates)
$103,911.44 - $110,418.31 - $116,905.33 - $123,412.20 - $129,889.22

Location: This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
