Cloud Operations Lead

Greece-Thessaloniki Chortiatis Full time

Role Summary

The Senior Manager, Cloud Operations is responsible for leading day‑to‑day cloud platform operations to ensure availability, reliability, security, and cost efficiency across Pfizer’s enterprise cloud environments. This role executes the operational strategy defined by the Director of Cloud Operations and translates it into scalable, repeatable, and automation‑first operational practices.

The Senior Manager leads operational teams responsible for incident management, service reliability, operational automation, and platform governance, while partnering closely with Cloud Engineering, Security, and Application teams to ensure cloud platforms operate safely and efficiently at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Operations & Reliability

  • Own the operational health of assigned cloud platforms and services across AWS, Azure, and GCP, including availability, performance, and recoverability

  • Lead 24x7 operational support models, including on‑call rotations, incident response, and post‑incident reviews

  • Execute SRE‑inspired practices, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and operational KPIs

  • Act as the primary escalation point for major incidents within scope, ensuring timely resolution and stakeholder communication

Operational Governance & Automation

  • Drive automation‑first cloud operations, leveraging Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, and self‑healing patterns

  • Ensure operational runbooks, standards, and procedures are created, maintained, and consistently followed

  • Partner with Cloud Engineering to ensure operability, supportability, and resilience are embedded by design

  • Continuously improve operational maturity through process optimization and tooling enhancements

Security, Compliance & Risk

  • Ensure cloud operations comply with security, regulatory, and audit requirements

  • Partner with Cybersecurity and Risk teams to remediate vulnerabilities and operational findings

  • Oversee patching, vulnerability remediation, and platform hardening activities for owned environments

  • Support audits and inspections by providing operational evidence and controls

Financial & Capacity Management

  • Execute cloud cost governance (FinOps) practices, including usage monitoring, optimization initiatives, and budget adherence

  • Support capacity planning and demand forecasting for platforms and services

  • Provide regular reporting on cost efficiency, utilization, and optimization outcomes to leadership

People Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop Cloud Operations Managers and senior individual contributors

  • Build a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement

  • Support talent development, performance management, and succession planning within Cloud Operations

  • Foster strong collaboration across global and regional teams

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • 7+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure or operations roles

  • 1-3+ years of experience leading operational teams in a complex, enterprise environment

  • Strong experience operating multi‑cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) at scale

  • Proven background in incident management, reliability engineering, and operational governance

  • Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., GxP, SOX, or similar)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing SRE or ITSM modern operating models
  • Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation tooling

  • Familiarity with FinOps frameworks and cloud cost optimization practices

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across technical and non‑technical stakeholders

  • Experience operating in global, matrixed organizations

Role Scope & Leveling Clarification

  • This role is one level below Director of Cloud Operations

  • Focus is on execution and operational leadership, not enterprise‑wide strategy ownership

  • Owns platform and service execution, while strategy, funding, and global direction remain with the Director

  • Guides contractor managers and senior ICs, rather than directors or multiple operational pillars
