Be Here. Be Great. Working for a leader in the insurance industry means opportunity for you. Great American Insurance Group's member companies are subsidiaries of American Financial Group. We combine a "small company" culture where your ideas will be heard with "big company" expertise to help you succeed. With over 30 specialty and property and casualty operations, there are always opportunities here to learn and grow.
At Great American, we value and recognize the benefits derived when people with different backgrounds and experiences work together to achieve business results. Our goal is to create a workplace where all employees feel included, empowered, and enabled to perform at their best.
We're looking for collaborative, full-stack developers who are passionate AI champions and change agents - engineers with strong backend experience in Java/Spring Boot, .NET, or both, who love close collaboration, embrace XP practices, and adapt comfortably to frequent context switching. You lead from wherever you sit, bringing others along as you introduce new ways of working and help teams rethink how software gets built in an AI-augmented world. You stay ahead of the curve, embrace new tools as the industry evolves, and are genuinely curious about where software development is headed. You see AI as a fundamental shift in how great software gets built, and you're excited to help shape what that looks like in practice. If you thrive in a fast-moving, team-first environment and get energized by solving hard problems together, we'd love to hear from you.
In the Developer Practice Lead role, you enable and coach teams throughout our organization, championing modern development practices and guiding teams toward delivery excellence. You'll be a driving force behind our AI-first delivery approach - pioneering how our teams leverage AI across the software development lifecycle, evaluating emerging tools and techniques, and establishing the practices, patterns, and guardrails that let us move faster without sacrificing quality. You'll own our internal playbook for AI-assisted development and be the go-to voice for how our teams adopt, evaluate, and scale new AI capabilities. Acting as a bridge between practitioners and architects, you ensure alignment with organizational goals while cultivating a culture of continuous improvement and experimentation. As AI continues to reshape our industry, you won't just keep pace - you'll set the direction, empowering every team to deliver with speed, quality, and confidence in an AI-augmented world.
As a Developer Supervisor, approximately 10% of your time will be dedicated to the growth and success of your direct reports. You'll coach and mentor developers at all experience levels, hold regular 1:1s focused on career growth and feedback, and partner with each team member on individual development plans aligned to their goals. You'll conduct performance reviews, participate in hiring and interviewing, and foster a culture of continuous learning — helping every developer on your team progress toward the next stage of their career.
We also know that job descriptions can be intimidating. If you don't tick every box, apply anyway - we care more about who you are than whether you match a checklist perfectly.
Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site a minimum of three days a week if local to Cincinnati, with the potential to work two days remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday but will be determined by business needs.
