Clinical Trial Associate Team Manager (12 months secondment)

ROLE SUMMARY 

The Clinical Trial Associate (CTA) Team Manager is accountable for a team of 10-15 specialist CTAs that execute a range of technical tasks considered essential for enabling studies to comply with timelines, GCP, Pfizer SOPs and country regulations. 

 

The role is accountable for developing specific niche onboarding and or training materials, tracking and KPI measures to enable seamless execution of complex administrative clinical trial execution tasks to meet country regulations. The Team manager works with the Group Lead and Regional Lead  to ensure that tasks are resourced appropriately through a combination of specialist direct reports who are colleagues or contingent workers, matrixed SMEs, and SMEs from other functions on a task sharing reciprocal basis as needed. 

 

The CTA Team Manager has strong collaboration with leaders and managers within and external to function which is essential for the success of this role.  They will work with Outsourcing and Business Process Owners in order to effectively deliver some tasks, including logistics and translations as needed.  They will also have a functional area of responsibility eg invoicing where they are expected to represent the CTA Team and feedback to the Group Lead where appropriate. 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES  

The CTA Team Manager ensures that knowledge of specialist processes and regulations is maintained and that this is fully available to and embedded in the task delivery of individuals with responsibility to execute them. They supervise closely the implementation of the activities by CTAs on studies to ensure high-quality, cost-effective site and country support.  They ensure effective tracking and reporting of deliverables in their scope to CTA leadership and wider GSSO leader roles as applicable. The CTA Team Manager can represent the CTA Team on initiatives impacting the role’s activities and feedback to the CTA group Lead/ regional lead for evaluation. 

  • Collaborates with local cross functional study team members of varying levels of seniority. 

  • Uses established procedures and methodologies to ensure the completion of assigned tasks according to timelines and to required quality standards. 

  • Understands work undertaken by CTAs and is expert in complex work activities 

  • Acts as the technical/functional expert for key CTA processes, systems and tasks, providing guidance and oversight to direct reports and other teams for their area of expertise, and acquires knowledge in related areas. 

  • Work with other CTA managers to identify continuous improvement opportunities to enhance operational efficiencies. 

  • Support the CTA Group Lead/Regional Lead in the collaboration across GSSO roles and stakeholders to support continuous improvement and/or group expansion 

  • Support the build and maintenance of role job aids and any associated work type of country intelligence 

  • Maintain ongoing contact and communication with stakeholders who are site and country facing roles to ensure alignment with CTA role understanding 

  • Build relationships and Connect with Process Leads to ensure alignment with CTA role and SOPs and processes 

Team Leadership Responsibilities: 

  • Line management of 10-15 Specialist CTAs. 

  • Enable CTA colleagues to be able to work autonomously and provide direction where needed. 

  • Oversee the onboarding of new hires via the CTA onboarding SME 

  • Responsible for the talent development of colleagues seeking growth opportunities 

  • Accountable for team deliverables for site and/or country support 

  • Responsible for individual performance and work behaviors to ensure work effectiveness and efficiency aligned with company core values and policies and assess performance issues. 

  • Act as point of contact for team for issue resolution 

  • Drive and/or support continuous improvement initiatives 

 

CTA Management Team Responsibilities: 

  • Supports coherence between all managers  

  • Contribute to team strategy & evolution 

  • Partners with the CTA quality team supporting excellent team performance and high quality deliverables 

  • Contribute to and evolve Key Performance Indicators and local country Cycle Times, to ensure achievement of Pfizer’s Best in Class objectives (quality, speed and cost). 

  • Able to act as an SME on projects and initiatives, as requested

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS  

  •  BA/BS 5+ years experience 

  • MBA/MS 3+ years experience 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • 5+ years experience in clinical trial administration, advantage for areas of specialism such as Import, Translation, Finance, Specialist Submissions. 

  • Experience in refining or developing process improvements or concepts that improve the department’s work 

  • Experience in managing a team of subject matter specialists or a matrix team involving cross-functional representatives
