The Scheduler reports to the Scheduling Supervisor. Under general supervision, the Scheduler serves as the initial point of contact for individuals scheduling outpatient and minor procedures at MUSC. Assists One or more groups of physicians, advanced clinical practitioners, providers, and clinical team members. Ensures competent and accurate appointment scheduling while maintaining the efficient flow of all incoming and outbound calls. Provides appropriate screening, handling and routing of incoming phone calls.
Essential Functions
• This position facilitates schedule appointments for multiple departments in a call center environment utilizing an automated scheduling system
• Performs quality Data Demographic collection including but not limited to Patient name, Date of Birth, Address, Phone numbers, Insurance information, Next of Kin, Primary Care Physician
• Obtains Insurance Authorization from the providers or clinical team members upon scheduling appointments
• Answers inbound and/or places outbound telephone calls as assigned and appropriately directs callers and ensures all calls are handled efficiently and in a timely manner
• Schedules various types of appointments for physicians, advanced clinical practitioners, and other clinicians, and communicates any necessary instructions.
• Cancels or reschedules appointments from the patient, physicians, advanced clinical practitioners, and other clinicians as needed.
• Answers voice mails every 15 minutes and return calls as needed
• Mandates fax machine for faxes and resends to appropriate locations
• Scans orders into the patient account as needed
• Must be able to speak and articulate clearly in a professional manner
• Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
This role performs activities to ensure effective operations of the hospital, while enhancing the revenue cycle and providing the highest level of customer service.
Additional Job Description
Education: High School Degree or GED is required
Experience: Previous medical scheduling is preferred
