Summary:

We are seeking a detail‑oriented and analytical team member to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely billing of clinical trial related services. This role supports the integrity of our research billing processes by reviewing charges, validating research‑specific modifiers and indicators, reconciling services against approved coverage analyses, and resolving discrepancies across patient accounts and research protocols.

The Specialist collaborates closely with clinical trial coordinators, revenue cycle teams, compliance, and clinical departments to ensure adherence to federal, state, and payer‑specific clinical trial billing rules. This position plays a key part in safeguarding compliance and minimizing billing risk.

The pay range for this position is $53,357 - $67,810 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package. The listed pay range reflects the range of potential compensation for this role. The actual offer may vary based on qualifications, skills, and experience.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

1. Associate’s degree in a health or science related field; or
2. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and two (2) years of clinical research, acute care or related experience.

NOTE: 
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will have the following:

  • Experience with athenaIDX research billing or another EHR’s clinical research charging workflow.
  • Experience supporting audits, compliance reviews, or billing investigations.
  • Working knowledge of clinical trial billing workflows
  • Ability to interpret and map coverage analysis items to fee schedules, modifiers, and billing codes
  • Strong analytical skills to identify charge trends, missing charges, and outliers
  • Demonstrated understanding of Medicare Coverage Analysis (MCA) standards and billing compliance for routine costs vs. sponsor‑covered services
  • Ability to perform reconciliation between protocol calendars, coverage analyses, and posted charges
