Job Description

Summary

The Clinical Prototyping Product Development Manager will lead the translation of early product concepts into tangible prototypes and pilot-ready solutions. This role is responsible for designing, testing, and refining early-stage clinical products to ensure they are clinically viable, technically feasible, and client value centered. The role will oversee the prototyping process, lead product pilot programs, including point solutions, and generate evidence to inform go/no-go investment decisions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Accountable for Prototyping & Solution Design

  • Lead the design and development of product prototypes and minimum viable products (MVPs).
  • Translate high-level requirements into functional mockups, interactive prototypes, and workflow visualizations.
  • Ensure designs reflect user-centered principles, clinical workflows, regulatory considerations, and technical feasibility.
  • Collaborate with internal design, engineering, and clinical experts, as well as external partners, to accelerate prototyping.

Drive Pilot Program Development & Implementation

  • Scope, plan, and lead new concept pilot programs or point solutions to test product assumptions in real-world clinical products and outcomes.
  • Partner with internal and external clinical program teams and end users to execute pilot programs, ensuring robust data collection and outcome measurement.
  • Define success metrics (clinical, operational, financial, user adoption) and report outcomes to leadership.
  • Refine prototypes and solutions based on pilot learnings to improve usability, effectiveness, and scalability.

Responsible for cross-functional Collaboration & Handoff

  • Work closely with colleagues to align product concepts and business cases.
  • Deliver validated evidence, refined designs, and prototype results to downstream product development teams for scale and commercialization.
  • Partner with product solution team, Clinical account executives, compliance, regulatory, and operational leaders to ensure pilots meet organizational and industry standards.

Supports Clinical Product Success

  • Identify risks, barriers, and enablers to adoption early in the design and pilot process.
  • Provide input into build vs. buy/partner recommendations based on pilot outcomes and feasibility.
  • Support portfolio decision-making by offering outcome-based recommendations on whether to scale, redesign, or discontinue prototypes.

Education and/or Experience

BS/BA and 5+ years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and 2 years' of SME in respective areas

Computer Skills

This role requires expertise in visualization and workflow design tools (such as Figma, Miro, Lucidchart, or Visio) to create wireframes, prototypes, workflows, and user experiences that bring concepts to life and enable effective testing and iteration.  Role requires Microsoft 365 skills.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience leading prototypes, pilot programs, or MVP development within healthcare, Pharmacy Benefit Management, or digital health.
  • Strong ability to map clinical workflows and translate them into intuitive, user-centered solutions.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance environments (HIPAA, FDA, ISO, etc.).
  • Demonstrated success in developing pilot programs with point solutions and translating results into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills with ability to work across clinical, technical, and business domains.

Work Location

This position works on-site at the San Diego Headquarters or other company location (or from a remote location with management approval based on business requirements). Must provide adequate support to internal clients; be available for regular interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as be available to facilitate effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders.

Working Hours

This is an exempt level position requiring the incumbent to work the hours required to fully accomplish job responsibilities and reasonable meet deadlines for work deliverables. The individual must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required.  Work hours may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business.  Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

This position requires domestic travel of up to 10% of the time.
