The Clinical Pharmacist – Sterile Products practices within a high-acuity, large-scale academic medical center at Main Campus, supporting a high-volume sterile compounding operation across multiple service lines including the operating room, critical response teams, ambulatory infusion, oncology, ophthalmics, and specialty infusions. This role works primarily in the cleanroom, overseeing sterile compounding workflows and personnel while ensuring the accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance of compounded products. Responsibilities include verifying complex medication orders such as TPNs and specialty infusions, supporting urgent needs from surgical and critical care teams, reinforcing aseptic technique standards, and contributing to process improvement initiatives. This position plays a critical role in maintaining safe, efficient, and high-quality sterile compounding operations in a complex healthcare environment.

A caregiver in this position works a 7 on/7 off schedule Monday through Sunday. Monday through Saturday will be from 10:30am to 10:00pm and Sunday will be from 11:00am to 10:00pm. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services. 
  • Verify medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.  
  • Document services in a complete, accurate and timely manner. 
  • Actively contribute to medication safety initiatives. 
  • Ensure all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards. 
  • Directs staff appropriately to provide safe and efficient care and maintain professional working relationships with all caregivers. 
  • Educate and train students, residents, other caregivers and/or patients.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • PharmD or Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college of Pharmacy 
  • For individuals required to administer immunizations, Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required
  • Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Board Certification  
  • Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing and walking for prolonged times, approximately 75% of shift and continuously for extended periods of time. 
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer and dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Position often includes reaching, stretching, stooping, climbing steps and sitting.
  • Must have normal or corrected vision.
  • Must have ability to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
