The Clinical Operations Country Head Belgium reports to Clinical Operations Area Head, and leads a team of approximately 25 talented colleagues. This role is based in the Brussels offices, Belgium.
The opportunity
As the Clinical Operations Country Head, you are a strategic architect of clinical excellence. You will lead the Country Leadership Team to bridge the gap between global strategy and local execution, ensuring our life-changing portfolio reaches patients with speed, quality, and integrity.
In this high-visibility role, you will champion operational excellence, manage pivotal CRO partnerships, and cultivate a high-performing culture that empowers our people to do their best work.
Your key responsibilities
Visionary & Strategic Alignment: Drive the Country Leadership Team across therapeutic areas, partnering with Global TA Leaders and Country Medical Directors to align local execution with the "One Pharma" strategy.
Architect of Operational Excellence: Partner with CROs to implement data-driven, innovative strategies that enhance productivity. You will manage country resources and budgets to maximize value while ensuring gold-standard adherence to legal and ethical regulations.
Catalyst for External Shaping: Build influential relationships with Health Authorities, Ethics Committees, and Industry Groups to advance the clinical research landscape in Belgium, ensuring CRO partnerships remain collaborative and accountable.
Strategic Growth & Oversight: Contribute to the broader area strategy by sharing best practices and potentially providing oversight to ensure alignment with global strategic objectives across affiliated borders.
Coach for Future Talent: Lead by example to foster an inclusive environment where diversity of thought is celebrated. You will actively develop a pipeline of future leaders through performance coaching and intentional career pathing.
Who you are
You are a visionary leader who thrives in a matrixed environment. You balance a high-level strategic mindset with the analytical rigor required to manage complex clinical operations.
Degree in Life Sciences (MD, PhD, or Master’s preferred).
10+ years experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry.
Experience in drug development is essential.
Understanding of end-to-end clinical trial processes, and strong knowledge of clinical trial regulations and guidelines.
Exhibits strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and guide individuals and teams towards achieving common goals. Demonstrates a proactive approach to fostering a positive and productive work environment.
You excel at "Systems Thinking," identifying key relationships and dependencies across the end-to-end clinical trial landscape to ensure seamless execution.
A strong asset if you have experience in a commercial environment, demonstrating a Commercial Effectiveness mindset regarding market dynamics and competitive landscapes.
Ability to thrive in an international organisation; including national and international travels as required by the business.
You possess a Digital Mindset, showing curiosity for new technologies (AI/Data Analytics) to enhance clinical trial processes.
You demonstrate high Agility and Resilience, with the ability to navigate uncertainty and adjust to evolving global/local regulatory trends.
