Your part in The Wesley Hospital

The Wesley Hospital Choices Cancer Support Centre (Choices) is currently seeking a passionate and motivated Clinical Nurse to join our Choices’ team on a part time 32 hours a fortnight. The purpose of this role is to ensure that comprehensive, co-ordinated care is provided to patients and their families experiencing a cancer diagnosis and people undergoing cancer treatment. Clinical experience and a holistic approach to cancer care in this specialty is essential.

The role would involve both inpatient and outpatient consultations and some expertise around managing the side effects of treatment. The Choices’ team will provide you with a supportive team environment with opportunities for ongoing development.

  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge & skills in psychosocial and cancer nursing care which promotes optimal patient outcomes
  • A high commitment to the provision of safe, appropriate, quality patient care & holistic approach to cancer care 
  • Assess and respond appropriately to clinical nursing issues and concerns
  • Effectively exchange information regarding patient responses in nursing care
  • Exercise authority through appropriate decision making
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide best care and support for the patient and family
  • Providing information on social supports and resources to patients and families
  • Advocating for patients and family’s needs by collaborating with other health professionals while respecting culture, values, beliefs & spirituality
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of team and organisational objectives in quality emotional care
  • Effective communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to facilitate liaison with patients, families, medical professionals and other stakeholders
  • Excellent time management
  • The ability to facilitate co-ordination of care and education throughout the cancer treatment trajectory and beyond
  • Critical thinking, assessment and complex problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
  • Willingness to obtain required vaccinations in line with hospitals infection control requirements.
