Clinical Nurse Supervisor

The Clinical Nurse Supervisor provides clinical leadership and delivers professional nursing care in a student-focused outpatient and urgent care setting at The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS). This role is responsible for supervising nursing and clinical support staff and ensuring the efficient coordination of patient care, including patient flow, education, referrals, and maintenance of documentation and records.
Working closely with healthcare providers and campus partners, the Clinical Nurse Supervisor supports the effective operation of Student Health Services (SHS) while promoting health education and wellness across the consortium. This position requires strong clinical experience and judgment, leadership skills, and the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of a college health environment. This is an 11-month position anticipated to start in August.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
70% Direct Patient Care Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing assessment and triage for students. Records and reports student history and physical exam.
- Obtain episodic histories of ill or injured students and aid in determining the disposition of the same.
- Assist physicians and nurse practitioners (healthcare providers) and works collaboratively with the ancillary staff in the treatment of the ill or injured student.
- Assist healthcare providers with minor surgical procedures and examinations within scope of practice.
- Administer medications and immunizations as ordered by the healthcare providers.
- Dispense medications as ordered by the healthcare providers in accordance with the California Business & Professional Code 4173 and the Board of Registered Nursing Code 2725.1.
- Educate students on medication use, including purpose, administration, and potential side effects; maintain and update patient education materials.
- Provide telephone triage of student calls assisting in the appropriate disposition of the student including making a same day appointment and documents/records transactions in the student’s medical record.
- Maintain accurate records according to the labeling and dispensing of medications.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and inventory management of medications and vaccines, including monitoring of temperature logs and supply levels.
- Participate in campus outreach programs as requested.
- Participate in Quality Assurance/Improvement programs for Student Health Services.
- Participate in professional development opportunities and in-service training.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Provides phone services for students 8-5 pm during the 11-month period documenting all concerns, symptoms, telephone advice, and disposition in patients’ charts.
- Provide clinical oversight and real-time guidance to nursing staff in triage, same-day care, and scheduled visits.
30% Administrative Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain nursing policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor clinical operations and staff performance to ensure adherence to standards of care and organizational policies.
- Oversee daily clinic operations, including exam room readiness, supply management and maintenance of medical equipment.
- Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient education programs, immunization clinics, and outreach initiatives across TCC community.
- Maintain credentialing records for RN and MA staff.
- Collaborate with Student Health Services leadership and campus partners to support public health initiatives and response efforts.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education/Training:
- Successful completion of Nursing Degree program
Experience:
- Three (3) years as a Registered Nurse in an ambulatory care or medical setting, including three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Competencies:
- Awareness of and sensitivity to racial, cultural, religious, gender and sexual orientation diversity.
- Applies comprehensive knowledge of professional nursing principles, methods, and procedures.
- Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing with students, staff and healthcare providers and has thorough knowledge of medical terminology and equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of uses and effects of medicines and narcotics
- Utilizes sound clinical judgment to assess, prioritize, and respond effectively to routine, urgent, and emergent situations.
- Ability to observe and record or respond with therapy to medical reactions, symptoms, and behaviors
- Builds trust and rapport with students, fostering a patient-centered care environment.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and others
- Ability to analyze urgent and emergent situations accurately and to take prompt action
- Demonstrates proficiency in electronic health records (EHR).
- Exhibits strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple priorities.
- Upholds professional standards, accountability, and ethical nursing practice.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with adolescent and young adult/college aged patients.
- A master’s degree in nursing, social work or public health
Certifications, Licenses and Health Compliance Requirements:
- Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification. Ongoing training for recertification is provided.
- State of California license to practice nursing.
- Provide evidence of the following vaccination(s):
- Tdap, Influenza, HBV, MMR, and VZV at the time of hire
- TB screening within 30 calendar days of hire, plus once per year thereafter
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time/ position are 40 hours scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 11 months annually from August to June. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit. SHS has an adjusted holiday schedule in which certain holidays are worked to support residential students during the academic calendar.
COMPENSATION
Pay: The pay rate for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $10,000 - $10,910 per month.
