RN - Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to advance nursing practice and improve patient outcomes through evidence-based interventions, research, and innovative care models. This role provides leadership, consultation, and expertise in clinical practice, education, and program development to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and nurse-sensitive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive nursing practice improvements through evidence-based interventions, best practice guidelines, and policy modifications.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate innovative care programs for individuals and populations.
  • Provide input and expertise in orientation, annual competency assessments, and continuing education programs.
  • Collaborate with leadership, staff, and external agencies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Establish and monitor care standards, initiating changes based on data analysis.
  • Mentor and coach nurses and leaders in professional development and evidence-based practice.
  • Promote and facilitate research, including proposal development and implementation of findings.
  • Demonstrate age-specific care knowledge and skills across the lifespan.

Licensure & Certification Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification (ANCC) within 2 years, OR one of the following within 2 years:
    • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) – AACN
    • Advanced Oncology Certified CNS (AOCNS) – ONCC
    • Orthopedic CNS-C – ONCB
    • Other specialty-specific nursing certification (ANCC or approved body)

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Candidates with nurse clinician experience enrolled in a CNS program or willing to enroll will be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing or clinical specialty experience.
  • Completion of 500 clinical hours in a CNS program required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Expertise in clinical specialty area with strong clinical competence.
  • Leadership skills: teaching, project management, decision-making, team building, and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and customer service abilities.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Word, Excel).
