About The Opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) – Scrub/Scout to join our Perioperative Services team at Macquarie University Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic educator who is passionate about advancing nursing capability, strengthening clinical practice, and supporting staff development in a fast‑paced perioperative environment.
Working within an academically integrated health service, you will play a critical role in shaping the learning culture across our Operating Theatres. You will design, deliver, and evaluate high‑quality education programs that support Scrub/Scout nurses at all stages of their career—from novice to expert. This includes supporting core clinical skills, perioperative competencies, patient safety, and role‑specific development pathways.
This role is ideal for a Scrub/Scout nurse who thrives on mentoring others, enjoys evidence‑based teaching, and wants to make a meaningful contribution to perioperative excellence.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Clinical Education & Capability Development
Deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based education for Scrub/Scout nurses across perioperative specialties including cardiology, neurosurgery, ENT, opthamology, plastics, urology, general surgery, and robotic surgery.
Facilitate competency assessments, skills training, simulations, and departmental learning sessions.
Support the implementation of clinical guidelines, policy updates, and best‑practice standards in line with ACORN principles.
Workforce Development & Support
Coordinate and monitor learning pathways for Scrub/Scout staff, including new graduates, new starters, students, and rotating staff.
Support the NUMs and Perioperative Services leadership team with structured orientation programs and capability-based progression.
Mentor staff in clinical reasoning, communication, teamwork, and perioperative workflow.
Collaboration & Leadership
Work collaboratively with the MQ Health Academy, Perioperative CNE team, and multidisciplinary clinicians to plan, co‑design and evaluate education initiatives.
Lead and participate in quality improvement, audit-driven education, and safety initiatives.
Promote a positive learning environment that embraces innovation, reflection, cultural safety and continuous improvement.
