Travel Requirements

This position requires up to 50% travel to support operational needs, including visits to partner sites, participation in trainings, meetings, audits, and coordination across locations. Travel may include local and regional trips and is typically scheduled in advance.


Job Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Manager oversees daily operations of a high‑complexity clinical laboratory, ensuring accurate testing, regulatory compliance, and adherence to SOPs. This role provides hands‑on support in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and manual differentials while managing equipment maintenance, inventory, and proficiency testing. The manager trains and supports lab staff, promotes efficient workflow, and maintains a safe, compliant, and collaborative laboratory environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee lab staff and ensure they are following SOPs and policies.

  • Oversee training of new staff and ensure documentation is uploaded to the online site file.

  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results.

  • Follow necessary QA/QC requirements for a COLA laboratory.

  • Perform routine Chemistry, Hematology, and Urinalysis testing.

  • Prepare peripheral blood smears and perform complete WBC differentials on normal and abnormal smears.

  • Process samples for send‑out and reflex laboratory testing.

  • Participate in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year.

  • Assist with special procedures as needed (e.g., bone marrow aspiration/biopsy procedures).

  • Ensure operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.

  • Maintain laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, and verifying receipt of supplies.

  • Conserve laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

  • Provide medical technology information by answering questions and requests, and prepare reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by maintaining certification requirements.

  • Maintain inter‑ and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.

  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection‑control and hazardous waste policies and protocols.

  • Maintain patient confidence and protect the company by keeping information confidential per HIPAA regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel and databases

  • Must be a team player with great communication

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Sciences

  • ASCP or AMT certification as an MLS

  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience as a Med Laboratory Scientist in high complexity lab

  • Hematology/Core Lab experience is preferred

  • Must be comfortable with manual differential testing and performing venipunctures

  • Must be comfortable with Clinical Lab Testing, Chemistry Techniques, and Analyzing Information

  • Must be comfortable with Equipment Maintenance

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $58,800.00 - $122,500.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
