SCOPE OF POSITION
The East Clinical Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses and admission/ discharge criteria. Areas of testing within the East laboratory include Chemistry, Immunochemistry, Urinalysis, Hematology, Coagulation, Central Processing, Transfusion Services, rapid molecular testing, and kit testing. The lab provides training for new staff and medical technology students. The laboratory is staffed 24 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday and services all East Hospital inpatient and outpatient areas as well as the University Reference Laboratory and OSU Physician Office testing needs.
POSITION SUMMARY
The assistant manager (AD) is responsible for the daily operations of the East Clinical Laboratory and provides leadership within the area. This position works in concert with the manager to direct projects and execute validation studies for all sections of the laboratory. Duties include oversite of laboratory operations, CAP/CLIA compliance, QA, safety, timekeeping, scheduling, testing strategies, test platform validations, information technology as well as platform performance and problem resolution. The AM assists with P3 evaluations, corrective action, budgeting, purchasing, and new equipment evaluation. Administrative duties also include oversight and training of technical and shift lead personnel, systemwide standardization of processes (as applicable) and assistance with the ongoing work and development performed by Leads. The AM works under the direction of the operations director, and lab manager as well as the clinical laboratory medical director and division directors.
Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree with MT(ASCP) certification or higher is required with 4 years of post-degree clinical laboratory experience at a minimum. Degree must emanate from a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory (NAACLS) accredited program or equivalent. Previous leadership and supervisory/management experience preferred.
Required Qualifications: Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with ASCP/AMT, MT or MLS Medical Board Certification is required.
