The UHealth Laboratories is currently seeking a full time Clinical Laboratory Assistant 1 to work on site in Miami. The Clinical Laboratory Assistant 1 performs a variety of routine duties in assisting technical and professional personnel in clinical and research laboratories. An employee in this position provides broad support for the laboratory operations.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                     

  • Identifies, handles, and accessions patient samples requiring laboratory testing.

  • Transports specimens and communicates test results timely and accurately.

  • Maintains required laboratory files and logs system in a neat and accurate manner.

  • Performs specimen processing, such as centrifugation, aliquoting, and volume measurement.

  • Maintains adequate inventory level as per protocol.

  • Participates in the performance improvement processes for the department.

  • Maintains assigned work area in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                    

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

No previous experience

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Department Specific Functions

1. Case distribution to pathologists

  • Responsible for checking QGenda on a daily basis and distributing cases to pathologists according to service subspecialty.       

  • Responsible for filling distribution log throughout the day as cases are distributed

2. Filing and Log Systems.

  • Maintains accurate records of requisitions, accessioning logs, and transport logs.

3. Assists in the maintenance of operable systems by changing paper, labels and/or printer ribbons when necessary.

4. Specimen Pick-up, Delivery and Login:

                       

  • Responsible for the pickup, delivery and login of cases

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of specimens to the histology laboratory

- Picks up specimens from the OR and Sylvester.

- Delivers samples to the histology laboratory.

- Hands samples to Accessioning team in a timely manner.

- Records patient information in the receiving log.

5. Attends/Completes appropriate orientation and training courses to maintain competency and job skill set. 

6. Participates in required educational programs, including safety, infection control, etc.

7. Follows unit specific safety and infection control standards.
