Clinical Lab Technician

The USC Keck School of Medicine is seeking to hire a Clinical Lab Technician to support the day-to-day operations of the Biospecimen Repository Laboratory of USC within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.

The Clinical Lab Technician performs laboratory and documentation procedures, in compliance with USC Human Subjects Research policies, related to procurement, processing, banking, and distribution of biospecimens in a CAP/CLIA certified environment.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Procuring and processing tissue and fluid samples from human subjects as part of clinical trial, translational and basic science research: direct contact with clinic, radiology, ORs for scheduled procedures and status checks.
  • Accessions biospecimens into the Specimen Management System, including tissue for various USC IRB approved studies.
  • Accountable for assisting in the administrative aspects of the Biorepository, including organizing and managing biospecimens requests/projects, new protocols and managing current protocols.
  • Assists with the retrieval and organization of biospecimens (frozen/fresh tissue, fluids, blood products, FFPE blocks etc.) for researchers/clinician requests.
  • Maintains accurate records of completed work; keep up-to-date records of the cost of all work for recharge accounting.
  • Maintains all relevant equipment (e.g. centrifuges, freezers, refrigerators, incubators, biosafety cabinets).

The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers and clinical laboratories throughout the country.

Shift: Monday – Friday 8:30 am - 5:00 pm

Hourly Range:

The hourly rate range for this position is $21.08 - $31.07. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience: 1 years

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Preferred Experience: At least 2 years of working experience in a research or clinical laboratory setting and biobanking including processing of blood components (e.g. serum, plasma, PBMC).

Preferred Field of Expertise: Experience in a clinical laboratory setting.

Preferred Education/Experience: 3-5 years of working experience in a research or clinical laboratory setting and biobanking. General understanding of Human Subjects Research, HIPAA and IRB oversight as it relates to Biorepositories.
