Clinical Lab Assistant

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is seeking a full-time Clinical Lab Assistant (CLA) to support our Immunohistochemistry Laboratory as well as our Tissue Procurement Tissue Core (TPTC) Laboratory.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Procuring and processing tissue and fluid samples from human subjects as part of clinical trial, translational and basic science research: direct contact with clinic, radiology, ORs for scheduled procedures and status checks.
  • Preparing simple and complex reagents or media under direct supervision.
  • Receiving, accessioning and triaging patient specimens, blocks and slides.
  • Monitoring incoming phone inquiries and requests.
  • Establishing and maintaining courteous, cooperative relations with clients and other personnel.
  • Identifying and separating specimens to be referred to outside laboratories or analyzed by other USC laboratories.
  • Handling and disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
  • Maintaining, organizing and ordering laboratory supplies.

    The Keck School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is one of the largest pathology departments in the United States. The Department aims to shape the future of pathology as it will be practiced in community hospitals, academic medical centers and clinical laboratories throughout the country. The Department is growing very rapidly and there is great opportunity for advancement in the Anatomic Pathology Laboratories. 

    Shift: Monday - Friday; 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

    Hourly range:

    The hourly rate range for this position is $21.64 - $26.50. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations

    Minimum Education: Related undergraduate study, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
    Minimum Experience: 0 - 6 months
    Minimum Field of Expertise: Experience as a laboratory assistant in a clinical lab.
