St Vincent's Health Australia

Clinical Innovation and Medical Engagement Lead

NSW - Sydney, CBD, Inner West and Eastern Suburbs Full time

Job Description:

Better and fairer care.  Always.

St Vincent's has been a leader in Australia's health and aged care landscape for more than 165 years. Since our founders, the Sisters of Charity, opened our first hospital in 1857, our services and nearly 30,000 people have been behind some of Australia's most important medical breakthroughs. We are a microcosm of Australia’s health and aged care system and are uniquely positioned to lead and respond to our rapidly changing environment.

You will be joining St Vincent’s as we launch our exciting new vision Bringing Care Home, which will take the best of St Vincent’s care beyond our hospitals and aged care homes directly into the homes of our communities across the country, making care more personal and accessible. Bringing Care Home is more than a strategy. It’s how we’ll deliver care that is better, fairer, and more connected – for everyone we serve.

We are looking for a special kind of person - a St Vincent’s kind of person. Someone who puts excellence, compassion, connection and caring for other people at the heart of everything they do.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the National Chief Medical Officer, the Clinical Innovation and Medical Engagement Lead is an enterprise role created for a doctor who wants to help shape the future of clinical practice across St Vincent’s Health Australia.

This role is designed for a clinician with curiosity, credibility and an innovation mindset, someone who sees the opportunity to work beyond traditional boundaries while remaining deeply connected to the realities of medical practice. You will help strengthen medical engagement and experience across SVHA, while enabling clinicians to access innovation, digital capability, AI‑enabled tools, and “tools of the trade” that genuinely support care delivery.

You will act as a trusted connector between clinicians, executives and product and digital teams, ensuring that innovation is clinician‑centred, practical, and grounded in real workflows. Working primarily through influence rather than formal authority, you will help translate strategy into meaningful clinical change and support the shift from disconnected pockets of excellence to deliberate, enterprise‑wide collaboration.

This is a role for a doctor who wants to have impact at scale, improve how clinicians experience work, and help build the next generation of care models, workforce capability and clinical leadership across the organisation.

This is a permanent full‑time position based at any of our Group Head Offices in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. The role supports a hybrid working arrangement, ideally two days per week onsite and three days working from home. Travel to SVHA facilities will be required several times per month.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Enterprise Medical Engagement: Build trusted relationships with doctors (JMOs through to VMOs) to strengthen connection and a shared identity as St Vincent’s clinicians.
  • Clinical Innovation: Enable collaboration to move from isolated pockets of excellence to coordinated, shared approaches to clinical innovation and new models of care.
  • Digital & AI Enablement: Support the adoption of digital and AI-enabled clinical tools by working with clinicians to understand needs and address concerns.
  • Strategic Project Enablement: Partner with programs like Bringing Care Home to support the design and development of new clinical services.
  • Medical Workforce Future: Contribute to shaping the skills, roles, and career pathways of St Vincent’s future medical workforce.
  • Acting CMO: Provide high-level support with the ability and willingness to act as the National CMO when required.

Things that work for us:

  • A registered medical practitioner with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience.
  • Diverse professional background outside the clinical setting, ideally experience in management consulting, a health start-up, or relevant/similar settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to frame problem statements, manage complex projects, and synthesise ideas into clear briefs and presentations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and build trust without formal authority.
  • A willingness to "roll up your sleeves" and facilitate workshops, create presentations, and drive initiatives forward while maintaining a growth mindset for professional development.
  • Postgraduate experience ideally in digital health, AI enabled healthcare or innovation programs (desirable).

Things that work for you:

  • Your work directly influences the efficiency of a leading healthcare provider, ensuring more resources reach those in our care
  • Enjoy a genuine balance with a hybrid model based out of our modern offices in Sydney, Brisbane, or Melbourne
  • Competitive salary packaging options
  • Direct mentorship from the National CMO and support for further professional development
  • Discounted private health insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program for staff and their families
  • Access to the Fitness Passport (FP)

At St Vincent’s we value inclusivity and diversity and acknowledge the importance of creating a work environment that is welcoming, safe, fair and impartial and invites people from all backgrounds to join us.
