Summary of Job Duties:

As the Director of Clinical Education and Training, you will lead with vision and purpose, driving the educational outcomes, fiscal management, and personnel development of the Clinical Informatics division and key clinical digital applications within UAMSHealth. This dynamic role calls for a blend of expertise in assessing educational needs, delivering impactful training for healthcare professionals, and navigating the intricacies of information technology to craft efficient, workflow-focused educational programs. You will collaborate closely with clinical and IT stakeholders, shaping curricula that align with organizational goals while directly supervising a team of licensed and unlicensed educators in the Clinical Computer Education department. Your leadership will extend across the organization, influencing educational excellence for stakeholders such as All Clinical areas, the Center for Nursing Excellence, Revenue Cycle, and Access staff. From managing Learning Management Systems (LMS) and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements to making strategic decisions on hiring, resource allocation, and process improvement, this position is at the heart of advancing UAMS' mission. You will also oversee budget planning, interact with leadership and external partners, and champion a culture of continuous learning and exceptional customer service. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Education, Health-related, Analytical fields or similar, plus five (5) years of experience in instructional design, educational outcomes assessment, or education technology and/or Learning Management System administrator experience
  • Proficient in education outcome assessment, evidence-based instructional design, adult learning theory, and education technology.
  • Proficient communication skills, proven leadership abilities, and an understanding of patient- and family-focused outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as an educator in an academic medical center and/or academic setting with demonstrated leadership in assessing educational outcomes and utilizing technological resources to improve learning efficiency.

Licenses, certificates, or registration:

  • Certification in Epic Electronic Health Record application(s), including TED
  • Epic auto-grader badge
  • At least Five (5) years leadership experience of Epic Principal Trainers (UAMS Health Computer Application Training Specialists)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

  • Educational Assessment and Delivery: Expertise in identifying educational needs and providing training for healthcare professionals.
  • Information Technology Knowledge: Understanding of IT components and processes relevant to clinical education.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Ability to manage and mentor licensed and unlicensed educators.
  • Collaboration: Experience working with clinical, academic, and research stakeholders.
  • Learning Management Systems (LMS): Proficiency in creating, publishing, and reporting educational modules for compliance and accreditation.
  • Decision-Making: Competence in hiring, resource allocation, and process improvement.
  • Budget Management: Skills in planning, allocating resources, and maintaining expenses within budget guidelines.
  • Customer Service: Commitment to excellence in internal and external customer service.
  • Regulatory and Accreditation Knowledge: Familiarity with requirements for educational outcomes and reporting.
  • Influence and Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to interact with and influence leadership and front-line staff across the organization.


Additional Information:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the effectiveness of traditional and computer-based learning programs, ensuring evidence-based education aligns with quality metrics and positive patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to design interdisciplinary training and ensure education programs meet regulatory and best practice standards.
  • Lead the development and improvement of educational information and learning management systems.
  • Provide consultation on advanced instructional design, Adult Learning principles, and efficient use of technology for optimal outcomes.
  • Assess, develop, and evaluate clinical training programs, integrating theory, research, and innovative delivery methods.
  • Manage fiscal responsibilities, including approving expenditures, participating in budget planning, and ensuring efficient resource use.
  • Lead personnel management by supervising certified Epic educators and specialized staff, evaluating performance, fostering accountability, and supporting staff growth through a clinical ladder and leadership structure.
  • Continuously review workflows and create productivity measures to enhance department efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Clinical Computer Education department and UAMS.
