Position Purpose:

Works closely with interdisciplinary health care team at the MercyOne Waterloo Cancer Center to provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy that are integrated and compatible with the patient’s medical program goals and objectives.  Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing care and medical nutrition therapy using established standards of care and practice protocols/guidelines; managing resources in a cost-effective manner, participating in performance improvement efforts; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice.

What you will Do: 

  • Conducts a nutrition assessment for patients at nutritional risk.  Obtains timely and appropriate data and analyses/interprets data based on evidence-based standards.
  • Works closely with patients that may need nutrition support (i.e. enteral nutrition).
  • Maintains productivity standards and practices effective time management and prioritization of tasks.
  • Assists in development of new/existing programs and services.
  • Maintains dietetic registration, state credentialing, and continuing education requirements.
  • Assists in developing and revising patient education materials, clinical forms, protocols and practice standards.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree: Dietetics or related field
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association within 6 months of hire and licensed by Iowa State Department of Health.
  • Mandatory Reporter
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients, public, medical staff and physicians.
  • Ability to function independently on assigned patient care units.
  • General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing and spreadsheet software.
