The University of Miami, Human Genetics Department, is seeking a full-time Clinical Dietician to work on-site in Miami, FL.

CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Dietitian 2 promotes good dietary health and treats medical conditions by devising eating plans for patients based on the science of nutrition. The Clinical Dietitian 2 formulates and executes programs and materials to educate people about nutrition coordinates, plans, and conducts programs to educate patients about nutrition. The Clinical Dietitian 2 administers medical nutrition therapy and advises food service operations for assigned healthcare facilities.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Meets directly with patients to identify nutritional needs.

  • Identifies ways to improve the care of patients and makes recommendations to appropriate staff.

  • Performs research and recommends ways to expand and improve nutrition programs.

  • Evaluates the effects of meal plans and revises the plans when appropriate.

  • Plans menus and inspects food to ensure portions adhere to set restrictions and dietary standards.

  • Assesses patients’ nutritional status and develops individualized nutritional plans.

  • Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.

  • Assists in managing family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patients’ care.

  • Triages patients to determine the urgency of physician evaluation. Documents and reports care in an accurate and timely fashion.

  • Collaborates with the development of educational materials.

  • Identifies and accounts for specific ethnic, cultural, and religious needs.

  • Responds to, resolves, and follows up regarding patient inquiries or concerns.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets

Department Specific Functions

  • Provide individual assessment and counseling, encompassing the full spectrum of nutrition care for

  • pediatric and adult patients with inborn errors of metabolism (lEM)

  • Provide timely and effective communication, documentation and follow up with clinic faculty and staff

  • regarding provision of nutrition care plans and follow up

  • Document anthropometric measurements, nutrition-related data collection, diet analysis, meal studies,

  • menu development, arid nutrition education of patients {and their parents) in the Electronic Medical

  • record and long-term care database.

  • Provide assistance to the Genetics team and patient (and their families) while patients are admitted to the hospital

  • Follow up with patients with inborn errors of metabolism and other genetic disorders in clinical setting, as needed

  • Respond to patient questions and provide results of laboratory testing via phone consults

  • Educate medical students, pediatric residents, and genetics fellows on metabolic nutrition

  • Ensure patients' formula and medication refills are sent in a timely manner

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required
Valid State of Florida Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) license required
