Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Surgical Services Clinical Buyer purchases various supplies and equipment for Marshall Medical Center (MMC) based on established procedures and guidelines. Collaborates with various hospital departments and negotiates with vendors to procure the most appropriate and cost effective products to meet department and organizational needs.  Under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services, assists in working with physicians to drive supply standardization among providers and develop cost savings analysis.  Coordinates competitive bidding, value and cost analysis, negotiates contracts with suppliers and tracks annual cost savings achieved for the surgery department. 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education/Licensure/

Certification:

Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting or related field preferred. 

 Knowledge/Experience:

Required knowledge:

  • Prior experience working with automated on-line procurement, inventory and an accounts payable computer system

  • Familiarity with Accounts Payable process and routine 

  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Excel, MS Power Point or similar program and Word/Perfect software

  • Knowledge of general ledger expense accounts

  • Strong negotiation skills

Preferred knowledge: 

  • Paragon Materials Management (PMM) system

  • Knowledge of medical supply terminology

  • Working knowledge and two years experience in the procurement of medical supplies, equipment and Material Release Order (MRO)

  • Prior experience with barcode scanning systems equipment

Skills:

  • 10-key by touch; typing 30+CWPM

  • Basic filing skills, alphabetical and numeric filing skills

  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. 

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and to prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
