Clinical AI Program Senior Director

As a Physician scientist, you will provide influence and important contributions across the intersections of health, disease, AI and drug development You will utilize your knowledge and experience across both your clinical expertise and knowledge of the R&D sectors to drive programs to moving from research into successful programs. You will demonstrate your influence through excellent communication, listening and leadership skills to appropriately shape implementation of research programs from concept through to design and delivery. 

In this role, you will use your experience in health AI research and development and work cross-functionally with both clinical and non-clinical teams including basic science, translational medicine, real world evidence, biostatistics and regulatory functions. Ideally, you will have considerable experience with generative AI research and tools. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • To use your expertise within the AI sector to bring innovation and deep understanding of novel technologies as pertains to opportunities to advance or improve strategies within the research and clinical development space. 

  • Use your integrated clinical, AI and research expertise to provide strategic leadership to teams across the R&D lifecycle within the R&I group at AstraZeneca, contributing both to strategic planning and implementation both within the wider organization as well as to individual product team and research roadmaps within R&I.  

  • Identify relevant clinical practice considerations, guidelines and evidence-based medicine as related to the development and evaluation of AI models and use these to influence research and product development. 

  • Respond to the needs of the business and projects prioritizing effort effectively, highlighting key inflection points and considerations to the wider R&D team and work in a broad and complex environment to bring your expertise to a range of strategic activities. 

 

Minimum qualifications and experience: 

  • Medical degree (e.g., MD, MBBS, MBChb etc.)  

  • 3 years of clinical experience with experience in the provision of patient care. 

  • 3 years of experience designing and leading research programs in the AI for health space, with 2 years of experience in health-related generative AI research. 

Preferred Experience: 

  • Additional science degree or Masters; ideally PhD within the AI field. 

  • Experience working with AI and health; ideally in the private sector. 

  • Experience working in complex, dynamic and ambiguous environments including with cross-functional teams in the R&D space. 

  • Advanced training in a medical specialty. 

  • Experience working with partners, including senior leaders, Key Opinion Leaders and policy makers, or communicating with external audiences. 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate complex messages across broad audiences. 

  • Ability to provide leadership within the area and to successfully integrate and pre-empt the impact of health technology across the R&D ecosystem. 

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $288,059 - $432,088.  However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program.
