Performs a variety of administrative tasks using an automated system which involves: assigning, maintaining, monitoring, or updating work status and inventory records; ordering research; acknowledging correspondence; maintaining, updating and initiating personnel records; timekeeping; and performing other support activity. Identifies and reviews Forms W-2 attached to Forms 1040EZ and 1040PC for conditions meeting Criminal Investigation criteria and code the returns appropriately. Conducts searches and other follow-up action on delayed shipments where acknowledged transmittals are not received timely. Transcribes and/or key verifies a wide variety of taxpayer prepared tax returns, related schedules, and/or documents. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-04, but if the position has career progression to GS-05, then you may move from a GS-04 to a GS-05 in as little as one year. TERM appointments can be terminated at any time. This announcement can be closed at any time as bureau needs dictate. Season is from 6 to 8 months. Employees who work a seasonal work schedule are placed in non-pay status or recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last 13 months but maybe extended up to a total of four (4) years. Employees may be eligible for conversion to permanent career or career-conditional appointments via merit promotion procedures if the following are applicable: Employee completed two years of current continuous service under a term appointment or any combination of term appointments in the competitive service at the time of conversion. AND The permanent appointment may be made only to a position in the same line of work as the position for which the employee received a term appointment under competitive procedures. AND The employee's performance under the term appointment must be rated at the fully successful level or higher.

Qualifications: Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: GENERAL EXPERIENCE GS-04: To qualify at this grade level you must have: One (1) year or twelve (12 months) of general experience. General experience must demonstrate progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience. OR EDUCATION: Two (2) years of education above the high school level (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school).Note: One full year of academic study is defined as 30 semester hours/45 quarter hours in an accredited junior college, college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school equaling 720 hours. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-5 Level: You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes- Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience. Examples of qualifying experience may include conducting basic research and applying information as necessary, interacting and communicating (orally and in writing) with customers, performing office duties. OR EDUCATION: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: A Bachelor's degree or four years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.
