👋  A bit about the role

We are looking for a versatile and safety-conscious Shunter Driver to join our team. This is a unique "hybrid" role that requires a professional driver who is equally comfortable behind the wheel of a Class 1 vehicle and operating MHE within a fast-paced warehouse environment.

While your primary focus will be supporting our warehouse operations, your expertise as a Class 1 driver is essential for our shunting requirements.

• Shunting Operations: Responsible for the safe and efficient movement of LGVs and trailer units across our sites (Rudie’s Kitchen and Ace’s Pantry) and on the adjoining public road. You will manoeuvre units into storage or loading bays with precision.

• Warehouse Operations: Operating a variety of Mechanical Handling Equipment (MHE). While we primarily utilise Reach Trucks within our 10m fully racked chillers and freezers, you will also operate counterbalance and ride-on forklift trucks.

• Inventory & Systems: Perform accurate stock counts and system transactions to maintain inventory integrity.

• Quality & Safety: Conduct rigorous quality checks to ensure product specifications are met. You will work in a manner that prioritises safety, correctly wearing PPE and following all site procedures.

• Facility Standards: Maintain a ‘clean as you go’ approach, contributing to the hygiene of floors, walls, and conveyors, as well as assisting with waste processing and order packing.

• Performance: Work towards defined KPIs and participate in daily review meetings to help drive warehouse performance.

At Butternut, our mission is to deliver health and happiness to dogs and their humans all over the world. In order to do just that, we need a hard-working team. And we need quite a big kitchen too. Which is precisely why we have built one.

Located in Doncaster, Rudie's Kitchen is where our Butternut meals (we currently have 12 recipes) will be gently cooked, using human-quality ingredients. Rudie's is also where we will be packaging our meals and boxing them for our customers all over the UK. We are a close nit team, with a that family feel, looking to welcome more like minded people to our lovely team and keep work life fun and enjoyable.

We are pleased to say, this is a full-time permanent contract, you will be working a rolling average of 41 hours per week working on a shift rotation with a mixture of days / nights and some weekend working. The working shifts days consisting of 7am to 7pm and nights consisting of 7pm-7am.

Such as:

• 4 on/ 4 off = 2 day, 2 nights
• 5 on, 5 off = 3 days, 2 nights
• 5 on, 5 off = 2 days, 3 nights

🐶  A bit about you

• Essential: Valid Class 1 (HGV Category C+E) license for shunting duties.
• Essential: A genuine willingness to work within a cold-store warehouse environment and undergo training on various Warehouse MHE (Reach, Counterbalance, etc.).
• Previous experience with Counterbalance, PPT, or LLOP is highly desirable.
• Confident in the use of warehouse IT equipment 
• Comfortable working in temperatures as low as -40 degrees and outside yard work (changing weather conditions)
• Able to be adaptable to an ever changing work environment with varied roles and responsibilities that can differ day to day
• Working level of speaking English 
• Ability to read English
• Numerate (able to understand and work with numbers)
• Good attention to detail
• Comfortable working in an environment that processes raw protein

• This role is 100% based in our kitchen in Blyth, Doncaster (just off the Junction of A1(M) and A614 Hill Top Roundabout, Blyth S81 8HG)
