Generally, the hiring range is from the minimum up to 80% of the range.This is a part-time hourly position.

Job Description Summary:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of child care tasks at the North Boulder Recreation Center and East Boulder Community Center and performs related duties as assigned.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Interacts with children from 6 months to 5 years or Kindergarten by reading, playing, and conducting creative art activities.

  • Cleans and disinfects the childcare equipment and room.  

  • Reports any problems and accidents in a timely manner.   

  • Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or players, and/or customers.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Interest, desire, ability, and commitment to provide excellent customer service in person and over the telephone.    

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse people in an organizational context.

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.  

  • Demonstrated organizational skills including attention to detail.   

  • Effective verbal and written skills.   

  • Ability to give instructions and to monitor the work of employees.   

  • Physical ability to participate in play activities.   

  • Upper body strength to lift children and carry supplies and equipment.   

  • Ability to ensure all practical safety measures are observed for children aged six months through five years.    

  • Able to be energetic and sensitive to the needs of the children and parents we serve.   

  • Basic math & problem-solving skills. 

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) or more years of experience working with children, 6 months to 5 years or Kindergarten. 

  • Previous experience working in a recreation center and drop-in based child care program. 

  • Knowledge of child care policies, procedures, safety guidelines, and equipment.  

  • Certified in CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid, and/or Babysitting. 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Previous experience working with children, 6 months to 5 years or Kindergarten.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS      

Physical and Mental Effort   

  • Primarily sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 20 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying; frequent walking and standing.  Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person.  Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials.  Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment.  Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an office setting.  Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/ or operating a keyboard.  Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.    

Work Environment   

  • Works primarily in a clean, comfortable, indoor environment.  Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.
