Job Highlights:
This is a PRN position working approximately one day per week doing car-seat clinics for our community through "Safe Kids St. Louis" program. You will be meeting 1:1 with family members to give instruction on proper installation of various car seats. On occasion, you may be asked to provide information on safe sleep and helmet safety.
Typical hours would be 8am-4:30pm, one day a week. The day would need to be coordinated with other staff members but would be Monday-Friday. There is a Saturday clinic held 6 times per year.
Must have CPST certification or obtain within 3 months of employment.
Job Summary:
Works to develop, implement and deliver injury prevention programs. Provides an organized, comprehensive approach for educating healthcare professionals, patients, families and the community in a variety of settings both on campus and in the community on injury prevention.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promotes patient access to useful, trustworthy information and resources for all socioeconomic and education levels related to injury prevention of all risk areas. These risk areas include, but not limited to, water, fire, falls, firearm, vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian safety.
- Functions as Child Passenger Safety Technician both on campus and in the community with emphasis on public safety partners if applicable to the ministry.
- Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of all projects assigned in collaboration with the Trauma and Injury Prevention teams.
- Records all activities and evaluation information in the appropriate documentation format for the specific risk area, which may include required reports and funder requests. Updates these activities as needed.
- Attends and participates in seminars, in-service education and conferences as appropriate.
- Integrates safety systems into all aspects of service operations. Safely operates injury prevention vehicle on a daily basis and car seat education trailer as needed if applicable to the ministry.
- Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
EXPERIENCE
- Three years' experience in community health promotion and/or injury prevention or related
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Proof of motor vehicle liability insurance that meets minimum state requirements upon hire and upon request.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Rare climbing.
