Reuters is seeking an outstanding journalist to lead our technology coverage in one of the world’s most dynamic and strategically important countries. The China Chief Technology Correspondent, to be based in Beijing or Shanghai,  will drive high-impact, globally relevant journalism that illuminates China’s technology ambitions, innovations and challenges — from AI and semiconductors to robotics and the Chinese companies shaping the future.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Chief Technology Correspondent, Greater China, you will:

  • Work closely with Reuters global technology editor to shape ambitious enterprise and investigative reporting of the Chinese companies that are driving technology and innovation, explain big picture trends, and show how China’s ambitions affect global industry, trade and security.
  • Produce exclusive news, insightful market-moving pieces, and deeply reported investigations into areas like artificial intelligence; semiconductors and supply-chain geopolitics.
  • Lead and coach a team of China-based technology reporters, supporting their development and elevating their work.
  • Coordinate across teams, including with visuals, colleagues covering U.S.–China relations, trade, autos, energy, and global tech.
  • Set high standards for accuracy, fairness, speed, and ethical reporting.

About You:

You’re a fit for the role of Chief Technology Correspondent, Greater China if you have the following required qualifications:

  • Proven track record of breaking major stories and delivering ambitious enterprise in China or other complex reporting environments.
  • Deep familiarity with China’s technology ecosystem — companies, regulators, supply chains, and policy drivers.
  • Ability to lead, mentor, and inspire reporters in a geographically dispersed, multilingual environment.
  • Excellent news judgment and ability to produce fast, accurate, and clean copy under deadline.
  • Strong sourcing skills and ability to operate in a competitive, opaque, and fast-evolving sector.
  • Fluency in English; strong Mandarin language skills (reporting-level proficiency highly preferred but not a must).
