This role is accountable, as the lead role in the Whole Engine Definition (WED) team, for the product technical account and for review/approval for the physical/functional definition at a whole product level on behalf of the Chief Engineer.

This role will lead the WED team to ensure product technical efficacy, reliability, quality and safety of the product, and has a direct responsibility for the technical leadership, coaching and guidance of our Engineering teams.

The Chief Design Engineer will also be required to work with Group ET&S as required to sustain rigorous Engineering capability and sharing and adoption of lessons learnt, best practices and new tools and methods.

What you will be doing:

  • Oversee all whole product design activity to ensure the technical efficacy of the product and be responsible for all applicable technical and professional Engineering standards.
  • Provide robust technical guidance and coaching to our Engineering teams, programme teams, value streams and customers and suppliers.
  • Lead the Whole Engine Definition (WED) team to achieve optimised design/functional solutions
  • Assist and appropriately lead the creation of technical/programme/value stream documentation (e.g. technical accounts)
  •  Lead the specification of technology and capability acquisition requirements to meet future product requirements and contribute to the development and implementation of a product roadmap/strategy

   

Position qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering ore relevant Science or Mathematics degree subject with suitable experience
  • Appropriate design/functional domain knowledge to facilitate competent oversight of Engineering activity
  • Proven extensive experience in leading optimised design/function solutions

 Preferred requirements:

  • Demonstrable understanding of airworthiness regulations, and process driven product change control
  • Excellent working-level knowledge and experience of all relevant technical skills
  • A creative thinker who is comfortable with ambiguity and is a pragmatic problem solver.
