Chief Accounting Officer

MongoDB is looking for an accomplished and strategic Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to lead all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, revenue management, accounting operations, financial systems and compliance. The CAO will be responsible for the accuracy and integrity of all financial results — with a particular focus on revenue accounting and recognition under ASC 606 — ensuring our financial systems and processes scale effectively with the business.

We are looking for a leader who combines deep technical accounting expertise with strong operational acumen, leadership skills and the ability to influence across the organization. The CAO will be a key partner to the CFO, Executive Leadership team and board of directors in guiding strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Oversee all accounting and financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, including SaaS revenue recognition (ASC 606)
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual closes, and manage external audits
  • Maintain compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and SOX (if applicable)
  • Serve as the main point of contact between MongoDB and our external auditors
  • Provide updates on Compliance and Governance controls and to our Audit Committee to ensure proper oversight of our filings and SOX compliance 

Accounting Operations & Systems

  • Lead the accounting team across general ledger, revenue, AP/AR, payroll, and tax
  • Implement scalable processes and systems to support growth and automation
  • Partner with FP&A and Revenue Operations to ensure accurate, actionable financial data

Leadership & Strategy

  • Build and mentor a high-performing accounting organization.
  • Advise CFO and executive team on accounting implications for business initiatives, M&A, and new products
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to drive process improvements and alignment with business strategy

Governance & Risk Management

  • Strengthen internal controls and financial policies to mitigate risk and ensure audit readiness
  • Support corporate transactions, integrations, and potential IPO preparation

Who You Are:

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, including 5+ years in an executive or senior accounting leadership role in a high-growth, world-wide, technology-focus public company
  • Proven ability to scale people and processes to support a large, international technology company   
  • Proven ability to build high-performing teams, scale accounting operations, systems, and teams both in the U.S., EMEA and India
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience leading audits and financial reporting in high-growth tech environments
  • Expertise in SaaS revenue accounting and ASC 606 compliance
  • Experience with ERP and billing systems such as NetSuite, Adaptive and other accounting software
  • Strong analytical and communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functionally
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA required

MongoDB’s base salary range for this role is posted below. Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB’s total compensation and benefits package.
