Job Description
Join us this summer as a student intern working across two key areas at AstraZeneca. We have 2 opportunities available in our function. Please see below for more details:
Internship 1 (Synthetic Chemistry):
What will you be doing?
Working alongside an AZ scientist in the laboratory using ground-breaking technology to:
Design synthetic routes for drug substance
Develop robust well understood sustainable processes suitable for scale-up and manufacture or drug substance
Use your chemistry knowledge to tackle problems
Technology transfer of drug substance methods to manufacturing
Learn about process safety and hazards of a chemical reaction
Helping to design, develop and implement best practice in Chemical Development
Internship 2 (Automation Chemistry Intern):
What will you be doing?
Support the development of new automated approaches to deliver process chemistry
Support the flow of data to build new chemical models
See and define the interface between the physical and digital world to make new molecules
Learn how to operate safely and compliantly within the industrial environment
What are we looking for?
AstraZeneca has partnered with the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Broadening Horizons in the Chemical Sciences programme, to support chemists from minoritised racial and ethnic backgrounds pursue careers in the chemical sciences. This internship is being offered to the Broadening Horizons Cohort to support this programme and our commitments to it.
Passion, integrity and a sense of fun are key to this role, as well as the ability to work as part of a team! You should be curious about industrial chemistry and passionate about using ground-breaking science to develop and deliver medicines which make a difference to patients’ lives. You should also have a good academic background and be prepared to apply your knowledge of chemistry and the patient in a practical way.
These roles are aimed at students who are interested in gaining practical work experience, developing their understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, building a network and seeing where their skills may align with a future career within the pharmaceutical industry.
What can we offer you?
Summer placement positions are available at our Macclesfield (Cheshire) site. The Internships is available in Chemical Development, Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) team. During the (12) week placement you will gain a useful insight into the Pharmaceutical industry and the variety of opportunities available to Chemists within our organisation.
Role requirements.
You can expect to hear from us by the end of March 2025. Interviews will be held mid-April and will be virtual. The placements will take place from late June for (12) weeks. A salary will be paid.
Applicants must be a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry Broadening Horizons programme and this will be checked during the application process.
