POSITION OVERVIEW

We are looking for a Scientist/Development Chemist to join our Dandenong South Manufacturing site.

This scientist/development chemist position is an on-site laboratory position. The primary objectives of this position are to carry out lab batch production and evaluation of adhesive and sealant formulations including raw material analysis, coordinating the ERP system technical requirements, partnering with operations to assess and solve problems arising in manufacturing and perform product trials, scale-ups and troubleshooting, including on-site at customer locations. The individual in this role will need to understand and follow Design and Development protocols and abide by EH&S regulations and business conduct policies and procedures.

This position will report to the ANZ Technical Manager for the Building Adhesives Solutions R&D Organization.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Develop and intimate knowledge in adhesive/sealant formulation and production technology.
  • Learn how production processes affect final product properties.
  • New Product Development – Assist development and commercialization of new products and technologies in the local market.
  • Perform laboratory tests to assess the physical and performance properties of new and existing products in new and existing applications.
  • Interpret, draw conclusions, prepare high quality reports and communicate results and data to stakeholders.
  • Completing multiple projects independently, drawing conclusions with guidance, reproducing and articulating results, and outlining business impact.
  • Serve as a resource for troubleshooting and product trials both virtually and in-person at customer sites.
  • SAP: create, update, and maintain BOM's, recipes, and inspection plans for products and raw materials.
  • Fulfilling responsibilities as required by the Quality Management System for the site/business unit.
  • Interstate travel may be required.

Required Skills

  • BS/BA Degree in Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering, or other related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to lead and solve problems independently.
  • Understanding of the diverse raw materials integral to chemical product development.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to plan and meet deadlines.
  • Good inter- personal skills and a can-do attitude.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel

   

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP database management systems
  • Exposure to applications using continuous improvement techniques; TQM, Problem Solving DMAIC, 8D, Fault Tree Analysis, FMEA’s, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and etc.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems IE ISO 9001

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

  • Working environment is a mixture of laboratory, manufacturing facility and on-site
  • Must be able to lift up to 20kg
