Salary Range: $92520 - $120282 Per Year

Job Summary: You will serve as a Chemist in the Laboratory Division, Quality Assurance Department, of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Major Duties:

  • You will utilize knowledge of chemical principles, theories, practices and methodology sufficient to perform the full range of duties involved in the chemical and physical analysis and testing of various substances.
  • You will provide information pertinent to a variety of programs and problems involving chemical analysis for which established methods are not substantially applicable, inconclusive, greatly variable, and sometimes unrelated.
  • You will analyze materials that are problematic or where conventional methods and method adjustments have produced inconclusive or contradictory results.
  • You will adapt and develop new approaches and methods involving emergent environmental chemistry problems, hazardous materials or identification of unknown materials found in various ship's systems.
  • You will research literature and technical journals for state-of-the art equipment that will either expand laboratory capabilities or result in cost savings.
  • You will validate that modified or new procedures produce reliable results that meet regulatory/accreditation requirements.
  • You will plan, coordinate, direct, schedule, and implement tests and conduct projects.

Qualifications: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying professional chemistry theories, concepts, and principles to conducting investigations, testing, analysis, and interpretation of the composition, physical and chemical properties, molecular structure, and chemical reactions of substances in a shipyard laboratory to support the safety and efficiency of naval activities.
