SUMMARY
Performs all functions of counselor practice as outlined by NYS OASAS. Focus includes the development and implementation of individualized patient treatment plan with emphasis on counseling and guidance of recovery process.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. (15%) Works collaborative with medical team to develop treatment planning strategies.
2. (10%) Responsible for making appropriate referrals and discharge planning of patients.
3. (40%) Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient records.
4. (25%) Participate in daily group counseling efforts of the unit.
5. (10%) Responsible for acting as the primary Individual Counselor for patients in their recovery process.
Education Requirements:
Required: Two years of college with specialization in chemical dependency or other human services area.

Licensure/Certification Registration Requirements:
Required: BLS
Preferred: CASAC
Required Experience:
Required: Two years of continuous abstinence, if recovering.
Preferred: One year of full-time employment in an inpatient setting.
Complexity of Work: Working in a high stress office and class room environment. Required to demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of individual and group counseling as applied to the treatment of addiction and mental illness. Have the ability to work with other health care team members; within and outside the institution. Work closely with patients, families, and/or their significant others. Excellent communication skills are required.
Physical Requirements: Exposure to acute care, communicable diseases, and intoxicated persons.

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components.
