This opportunity in Tech / F&R / Credit Risk sits right at the heart of the Bank’s operations. We translate our complex banking business exposures into impact on risk weighted assets and provisions in line with the constantly changing business desires and the latest regulatory requirements.

Tech / F&R / Credit Risk delivers the Tech for baseline and change activities for the COO Risk Organization with the purpose to drive our partners to maximize value in a safe & compliant environment.

Vortex consists of more than 100 components working together in one business application, with a constant business demand for change which needs to go hand in hand with structural technical improvements.

To deliver on mentioned ambitious promises, we are looking for a Chapter Lead who has an end-to-end strategic focus around our services and leads our squads in terms of clear prioritization, accountability and capabilities. The Chapter Lead is a position where all elements of a product come together, the what and the how, with an end-to-end transformation responsibility.

The team

You work not only on delivery and on how we run a product, but also on creating a vision on how we improve our application. But also having an understanding on how we manage the business value and how we increase collaboration with stream align teams.

As a Chapter Lead, you will hierarchically lead the platform squad which delivers services that improve the way of work of our stream-aligned squads. As a Chapter Lead you report hierarchically to the IT Area Lead Credit Risk.

As one of the four tribes of COO Risk, the Risk Tribe focuses on delivery of all change initiatives impacting Vortex. Within the Tribe, we do not solely focus on transformation, also ensuring all data is processed as per the agreed timelines is at the core what we do. By doing so, we do ensure that every colleague has insights in their daily, monthly, or quarterly data in a timely manner. Consequently, we monitor the timeline of internal and external reporting and apply the correct standards for data quality to our stakeholders.

Roles and responsibilities

As a Chapter Lead, you:

  • Build the craftsmanship of the employees in the team in line with the strategy of the Risk Tribe

  • Actively manage all internal parties and projects to successfully deliver upon the initiatives within the Data Ingestion area

  • Take ownership of a sizable number of backlog stories/features

  • Be the hierarchical manager of a team of 10-15 Engineers working in the platform squad, application interface squad. This squad is Partly Internal staff and Partly External SSI-India staff working together in a cross-border squad

  • Be able to work in a collaborative and highly complex setting

  • Able to take responsibility, steer strategy and realizations based on facts and data; managerial courage to question and make decisions for highly complex issues

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulation and internal/external requirements

As a Chapter Lead, you will also need to be able to:

  • Drive and manage large change programs in an international context and master complex financial content

  • Lead and deliver complex (multi-year) change programs on program level – covering multiple countries / functional departments

  • Communicate effectively to senior management, in which you can adapt your style and the content of your communication to the needs of others you work with. You always pay attention to the input and opinions of others

  • Be organizational savvy, you maneuver easily through complex policies, processes and people-related organizational dynamics across ING

  • Look ahead, you show a strategic mindset and you find future opportunities which you can translate into concrete strategies

  • Be tech savvy, where you anticipate and leverage innovations in digital and technical applications that make ING commercially stronger and more effective

  • Build an effective team, that has diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals

  • People management: being responsible for the inflow, progression, and outflow of employees of ‘your’ teams and playing an active role in the well-being and engagement of employees and the development of their craftsmanship

 Required skills and experiences

  • Azure DevOps pipelines (YML) and Ansible

  • Oracle PL SQL

  • Substantial general work experience together with comprehensive job-related experience in Credit Risk and IT to fully competent level

  • Experience in defining strategies and policies to set and deliver objectives within medium to long time frames

  • Proficient expertise in driving and steering multidisciplinary initiatives

  • A proven track record in process management, backlog management and resource planning

  • Experience in explaining complex issues in an easy-to-understand way to get people on board, including by using your strong analytical skills

  • Have a ‘can do’ mentality, proactive, resourceful, and willing to go the extra mile

  • Proven track record at management level and experience in Banking

  • Have a vision on Tech development and operations, and understand how to combine both Tech and Business requirements into a workable solution.

  • Create a roadmap on how to embed Technical Analysis skills back in the Credit Risk domain. With an aim to create better overarching Tech solutions.

Nice to have:

  • Observability tooling like Elastic stack, Grafana, Open Telemetry

  • Java, Linux shell scripting

  • Test automation framework
