In WB Tech/Transaction Services - Reporting & Cards area we are looking for a Chapter Lead Engineer to join our team. Wholesale Banking works conform Agile principles in self-organizing teams. Important aspects in this way of working are initiative, flexibility, continuous development, continuous improvement and active and positive collaboration with other teams.

Our WB TS Reporting & Cards area team are responsible for 3 Critical Business Service (CBS) applications among 11 Business Applications/Assets

  • Global Customer Reporting Platform (GCRP)
  • AgreementsCore (AGR)
  • Paper Statement Engine (PSE)
  • Electronic Banking Mid-office (EBMO)
  • 7 Cards Assets

The Team

  • You will work in close collaboration with internationally diversified Squads in ING's Agile organization to achieve the QBR commitments.
  • You and your Chapter Engineers work in multiple multi-disciplinary Agile BizDevOps Squads with end-to-end responsibility for our product. For more info about our way of working please visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3iu2kfZ3w4.
  • Your Chapter Engineers team skills are focused on RUN (Incident management) supporting Critical Business Services (CBS) applications, and Integration & Middleware DevOps Engineering technologies, such as: IBM ITX, IBM MQ, IBM RTW/IBM RIT, TIBCO BW, TIBCO EMS, and Oracle DB.
  • Chapter Engineers are distributed over ING NL (Amsterdam CDR) and SSI partner (Cognizant India).

Roles and responsibilities

  • You have Software Engineering Bachelor degree, you have achieved proven track proficiency experience record in DevOps full stack engineering and you are passionate about helping others grow in their craftsmanship
  • Together with your Chapter Engineers - you ensure the quality of the work delivered via sprints, and end-responsible for delivering and maintaining your product IT assets: high quality, reliable, secure, and well documented.
  • Together with your peer Chapter Leads and your IT Area Lead - you create high-performing teams, cooperating closely to promptly resolve any obstacles interfere with your Chapter Engineers productivity.
  • You act as a role-model and actively coach/motivate your Chapter Engineers to be a step-ahead in ”continuous improvement” mindset. Together with your Chapter Engineers you actively detect flaws in all delivery areas & processes and suggest/advise improvement solutions.
  • You are data-driven, passionate about ”measuring what matters”, actively developing actionable-metrics to be used by your Chapter Engineers & stakeholders making fact-based decisions.
  • You always have the customer in mind and continuously assessing the customer value & impact. Together with your Chapter Engineers you actively strive to increase our business value delivery.
  • You maintain contacts with stakeholders and external parties (such as vendors, GBIM, GMIM, etc.).
  • You play an active role in hiring and retaining great sociable A+ engineers and giving them freedom to pursue quality software development with proper attention to continuous delivery
  • You energize, motivate, train and guide your Chapter Engineers to increase their knowledge level and contribution, ensuring they grow in the discipline your Chapter represents. Strengthen ING Agile WoW as role-model safeguarding the Orange Code.
  • You are responsible for coaching (on both a personal and professional level) your Chapter team-members so that they can get the best out of themselves. Develop and lead them to meet their individual career goals, organization's goals. Continuously work on skills improvements, expertise and personal growth of your Chapter Engineers.
  • You are aware of personal development goals (technical knowledge as well as responsibilities) of your Chapter members and take this into account when you make decisions. You are aware of gaps in the knowledge of chapter members that stand in the way of getting things done, you ensure they get discussed and addressed.

as an Chapter Lead Engineer for RUN & Integration Teams you master the following Engineering skills –

Incident & Problem Management for 11 Business Applications (IT Assets), including 3 Critical Business Service (CBS) applications -

  • Deep Expertise in Resilience and Service Stability: Proven ability to manage Critical Business Services (CBS) applications production environments with a proactive approach, driving initiatives that reduce incidents and enhance overall service quality through continuous improvement.
  • Leadership in Incident Handling: Trained teams extensively on both functional and technical aspects of incident response, improving confidence, reducing dependency, and strengthening operational capabilities.
  • Continuous Incident Reduction: Led targeted actions to lower incident volume, eliminate recurring issues, and streamline response cycles. Conducted frequent review sessions to enhance team knowledge, refine solutions, and mature problem-solving practices.
  • Monitoring & Alerting Enhancements: Improved system observability by optimizing monitoring and proactive health checks, significantly reducing avoidable incidents and enabling early detection of issues before business impact.
  • Quality Assurance with Development Squads: Actively validated changes, challenged developers, and ensured only high-quality deliverables progressed to production—reducing failures and increasing deployment confidence.
  • Knowledge Base & KEDB Management: Collaborated to build and maintain an effective Known Error Database (KEDB), enabling rapid identification of repetitive issues and incident resolution.
  • Strong Collaboration During Major Incidents: Provided extended support during critical incidents, designed standby schedules with employee well-being in mind, and worked closely with Major Incident Management teams to coordinate across chain applications—always prioritizing minimal business disruption and timely, accurate communication during high-severity events.

ING IT Landscape -

  • Extensive experience in GCRP, PSE, AGR, EBMO, and Cards ING Applications and their integration.
  • Expertise in message standards and formats including COBOL Copybook, bespoke messages, PAIN, and SWIFT; adept at designing, validating, and troubleshooting messages seamless data exchange.

with proven track record of back-end Middleware & Integration development proficiency and extensive experience (8+ years) in -

  • IBM ITX, IBM MQ, and IBM RTW/IBM RIT.
  • TIBCO BW, TIBCO EMS, and system-to-system integrations.
  • Setting up flows ensuring secure traffic management, policy enforcement and message governance for enterprise-level solutions.
  • Designing and managing Azure-DevOps pipelines for CI/CD, enabling automated, reliable, and high-quality deployments across environments.
  • Skilled in leveraging enterprise ITSM platforms such as ServiceNow (SNOW) and BMC Remedy to streamline incident resolution, ensure SLA compliance, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Linux effective platform administration, log analysis, performance optimization, and automation.
  • Leveraging Grafana and Kibana to build dashboards, analyze logs, monitor performance, and enhance platform observability; actively contributed to observability scanning initiatives.
  • IT Risk & Security - Strong understanding of IT Risk and Controls, ensuring compliance alignment and maintaining robust governance across all activities.

Database Skills –

  • Extensive experience in Oracle and SQL Server, enabling efficient data handling, troubleshooting, and analysis across complex integration flows.

Interpersonal and Leadership skills -

  • Proven technical leadership (6+ years) track record in an international environment, with deep passion about growing IT teams, bringing the engineering-culture to the next level.
  • Passionate about ”continuous improvement” data-driven mindset to actively deliver and maintain high quality, reliable, secure, and well documented software products & IT assets.
